#5 "Seasons In the Sun"

Cruel and unusual...

...but I'm laughing my Tookie off.

"News guy on FOX TV said Jesse Jackson showed up and is trying to see Tookieboy. Imagine that?"

I'd like to see Tookie drawn and quartered, but having to spend your last day with the Shakedown Jackson? That's just cruel.

I missed the original question, but, I'm almost certain you didn't answer it.

If this announcement were closer to sundown, it would mean clemency. Since it's early in the day, I suspect denial of clemency and a curfew will be announced.

Pofanity is one thing. Abortion and murder are an entirely different animal.

Fair enough. But you would personally "execute" (in self defense, but execute nonetheless) someone before he committed murder. How do you know for sure he was going to murder your child? He may have had no real intention to do it, so you would have killed a man who was only there to rob you. You would not allow the state to do it after he committed murder. It is infinitely worse after he committed the act. Why do you think you deserve the power of God but the state doesn't deserve it?

Of course using this logic one could argue that the Framers resisted the plan of God by standing up to the British. Romans 13:1 alludes to 'powers that are ordained by God' not worldly rulers. Unless of course you are advocating the old British ideal that rulers have a divine right to rule. You do know the Framers rejected that principle don't you?

I think you're right. Arnold's gonna save him. Why else would he wait so long and build this up so much? I'm for the death penalty, but even I think it's cruel to draw this out so long.

My bet: Tookie is spared.

Arnold will say "He is far more useful to society if he is alive, than if he were dead. Therefore, I grant his clemency, ....and I am not going to run for Governator next term.."

"So let me get this straight. If someone breaks into your house and points a gun at your child, you are all for blowing them away. However, if the guy pulls the trigger before you do and kills your child. Then death for the perp is now out of the question?!? "

Not if I am there. If I am there, the perp dies. If I am not, then the situation is no longer immediate. I described that immediacy situation above in an earlier post.

No, I do not believe that the state should execute criminals. I believe the state should incarcerate them.

The question of what I would do in a particular situation is beside the point. I might well react and kill the murderer of a loved one, even later. However, I would not want the state to do so.

I'll bet Arnold does not give in and go for clemency. Arnold has been asked to grant clemency in the past and declined to do so. In addition, I think if Arnold were to grant clemency in this case, he would have done so sooner instead of waiting until the last minute. Tookie must die for the sake of humanity. If for some insane reason, Arnold did grant clemency, I might have to consider moving to California just so I can vote against him come next election. Clemency will only hurt him, and the small percentage of the population that actually wants this murderous thug to live, are not exactly the type of people who would vote for Arnold anyway.

You should have seen the party on the hillside outside the prison when they executed Ted Bundy. Cleaned out the shelves of every liquor store for miles around.
I'll raise a glass as the founder of the Crips chokes.

Could be so. I'm not betting, but I believe that the governor will deny clemency.

I was just remarking that to the best of my recollection, the California governor usually appears live on TV to announce the last minute appeal. I can't remember a CA governor giving clemency.

You'll have to pardon the accuracy of my recollection since it's so infrequent that California hosts an execution.

My pleasure, Bob. I have been waiting for years for a good, logical answer. There really is none. The logical position for someone against the death penalty is to not kill an intruder.

Based on his role in the Crips, and in the ongoing gang violence all these years since... how many deaths do you suppose he has been INdirectly responsible for? Not even counting the gang member vs gang member murders which are just messy and cost the taxpayers? I would speculate it to be a number much higher than our losses in Iraq....and he has had all the opportunities available under the legal system. I am generally neutral on capital punishment, but in this case...... Just hoping the riots don't cause much damage or bloodshed.

Funny how Tookie will be spared yet Schiavo was sacrificed. Something wrong there.

if he thinks he'll score points with the lunatic left by granting clemency, Ahnold is dumber than he looks!
