Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Did he say anything new .. or wasit the SOS?
It was most definitely the SOS.
There was just a vote that passed 70 something to 16...but, I didn't get to hear what it was.
Do you know?
All I do know about it was that the "good GOP guys" voted against it...like Allen, Sessions, Coburn...
but, Frist voted for it.
I think C-span2 is re-playing what you saw on FNC earlier right now.
Levin up now.
Did you hear Reid on the meeting with Condi Rice? They had it scheduled for Room 407 where it is permitted to discuss classified information but Frist has informed them that it will be in the room where he is speaking now, where you cannot discuss classified info. Reid in full whine mode says this is just typical of this Administration wanting to keep secrets from the American people. Classified information!!! Also whines about how little of her time she can spare for them and how she will just filibuster at the meeting.
Bush's speech being replayed on c-span 2 right now.
Thanks
Old crusty (am I blue edition) up now!
Oh....terrific, her pantsuitness is up talking about how awful our economy is...
She starts out her speech talking about the "spirit of Christmas"...and then talks about the "LACK" of concern (read:money)...by the federal government....
SOOOOO..I guess that means she is admitting that we should think of our government as a "Santa Claus"...just GIVING things to people...
Oh...now she says that BUSH's government is a "grinch"...'
PUH-LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEZE...someone smack her!
She wants to take the oil company profits. Is Hillary! aware that NY is responsible for more Medicaid fraud than any other state.
Did you hear that, Tx. She just took credit for the '97 welfare reform. She is a terrible speaker.
Offshore tax havens? I wonder why?
It must have been a closet Repulican who did that frost job on her.
Here we go with this "It Takes a Village" manure again.
She sees former welfare recipients all the time who just spontaneously come up and talk to her. Sure you do, Senator.
You mean the State were all the perverts who abuse our kids can get tons of Viagra ??
Yup, that one. Right now I'm listening to Susan Collins asking for more money for heating assistance. I cannot believe the amounts of money these people feel they have the right to throw around.
Coburn up? He is slapping every one about spending and political partisanship...
BTW...there should be a rule that NO appropriations spending bills can be passed during the month of December....because the whole "Chistmas giving" theme is USED and everyone is brought up to think of this time of year as a "giving season" that the politicians have their defenses down.
Coburn is smart to get up now...but, unfortunately, I think he is NOT real popular even in the REP party for getting up and lecturing all about how "bad" they are.
