"Yes, I'm a liberal and I'm sick of it being a bad word,"

Well, at least looney Clooney got one thing right. Being liberal is bad. I'm glad he at least recognizes that.

"I don't know at what time in history liberals have stood on the wrong side of social issues,"

Well, Georgie- Boy, there was that silly little Bolshevik Revolution over in Russia, which introduced a system of government to that country which endorsed the imprisonment and execution of millions of innocent civilians who disagreed with Communist ideology in one way or another. If Marx and Lenin weren't liberals, then I'm a monkey's uncle.
The only George Clooney film I've seen which was even remotely good or entertaining was "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"

After WWII, we shoulda taken French IndoChina from the Frogs and sent 'em on there way. So we supported an incompetent ally. Sue us.

Further proof that any cluster f in human history can ultimately be traced back to the French.

I have an idea, George.

Why don't you drop "liberal" and start using the word "progressive" instead? snicker

And the bit about sitting in the front of the bus, does this cretin not know that it was dims who were pro slavery and dims that fought against passage of the Civil Rights Act back in the 60s (dims like goron's father and the toon's mentor, Fulbright?). Oh, wait, he's a liberal - for them, history starts the day they were born.

strip-bombing Cambodia was probably stupid

"Strip bombing?" And what about the "Dominoe Theory"? Did Laos and Cambodia count?

Subject: 22 Ways to be a Good Democrat

1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.

2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no Art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.

6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural.

7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but urban activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.

10. You have to believe that having self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion Of The Christ for financial gain only.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Edison.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very nice person, and she really loves Bill.

17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.

19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese government is somehow in the best interest to the United States. But, complain, that all our jobs are going out of America to China.

21. You have to believe that John Kerry's Purple Hearts are legitimate, and that a Massachusetts Senator more liberal than Teddy Kennedy can be elected President of the United States.

22. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right wing conspiracy.

Before everyone gets a knee-jerk reaction to the word "liberal," remember that different people have meanings for that, as they do "Democrat." In fact, there was a guy on Hannity a while ago, a life-long Democrat who usually talks and votes Republican. Why? He believes in what the Democratic party used to stand for, hoping it will stand for that again, and the parties have moved so much to the left that the Republican party is closer to his beliefs than the Democrat.

In American politics, "liberal" is synonymous with "communist/socialist" and "progressive." Of course, so is "liar," "hypocrite," and "morally deficient."

A-ha!

I'm sure he'd prefer "bad actor" as opposed to "liberal".

In his case; both fit.

The modern-day liberals or Democrats like Clooney are the ones who have made liberal or Democrat a dirty word. Even if I strongly disagreed with them politically and economically, to the extreme of being polar opposites, I could at least respect the old-line Democrats who believed in a tough foreign policy and believed in standing up to our enemies and who weren't social libertines and, more than anything, weren't hesitant to show their sincere love for this country and who understood America's role in the world. Earth to Clooney: That ain't today's liberals and Democrats. Today's bunch aren't worthy of respect, they'd have been suing Tojo for peace on 12/8/41 ... FDR will have much to answer for at the White Throne for what he foisted on this country in the 1930s, crap that we're still dealing with the ramifications of today, but I make no apologies for respecting him as a wartime leader at least pre-Yalta, and his "Day of Infamy" speech gets my blood circulating every time I hear it ... and it seems like their entire mindset is that the U.S. is nothing more or less than the country between the United Republic of Tanzania and Uruguay on the U.N. roster. The liberals and Democrats of the past have to be spinning in their graves at what their party has become, the receptacle for all the flotsam and jetsam within the borders of the U.S.

Like a lot of people, I no longer have a land-line, prefering to use cell phones and a cable modem. I was recently asked to participate in an Arbitron ratings poll, where I would use my phone to call in my radio choices. When it was learned that I had only a cell phone, (they could tell from my number), they told me I couldn't participate. This seems to exclude a significant demographic that may be more conservative than the general public that stays home all day with land lines. Other polls, like some presidential approval polls, seem to use phone polling. This must be skewing the answers.
