KINGFISHER -- State and local officials are puzzled by a series of geysers that have erupted in recent days in Kingfisher County, spewing mud and gas into the air.
The geysers have appeared throughout the countryside, with stretches of up to 12 miles between spots, and some as short as a quarter of a mile, Kingfisher Fire Chief John Crawford said.
The threat of the gas igniting is "unlikely," Crawford said, but a bigger concern is the gas could begin coming up through water-well lines.

I live within 50 miles of this area.
If your 50 miles away, even if it was a volcano, you'll probably be fine. I was just suggesting doing so geological research on the area.

bump for later reading, have property fairly close by.

Thanks for the info (and good news on the Basin deep gas activity). That's exactly what I was thinking--except Kingfisher is much shallower, isn't it? Sooner Trend?

Video of both of these "geysers" was on our local news tonight in south TX, so may be picked up nationally. (Are we sure it wasn't a Kingfisherite exclaiming, "Guys! Wowsers!" to his buddies?)

Latest from tv: Although the geysers have stopped moving towards the city of Kingfisher (for the moment at least) they have started developing on another creek, moving south of Kingfisher. I think these creeks feed the Cimarron River.
Air testing done in the area shows 30% level of gas. Hunters - don't light up!!

It was in one of the episodes of 'Son of a Beach', a parody on Bayside. They did an episode in Hawaii and that was the name of a volcano that came to life. Very funny...
Ever see it?

There is a fun, inexpensive golf course in Kingfisher that I played at a few months ago.

"What do you think?" Pressure down there somewhere trying to get out. Maybe an unknown volcano?

...and my guess is these are natural gas geysersIf so, does this mean those drillers are losing money? That their gas is getting away?

Do they store gas in salt domes nearby?

Frankly I think it's old geezers that are just spewing....not geyser's at all.
BWDIK!?!?!?
To: berkeleybeej
There must be quite a few politicians buried in Kingfisher county. Hot air and spewing are common among politicians.

I wonder, has there been an increase in tremor activity in the area?

Is the Gas thats coming up hot?

Let's slap on our tin foil hats as I ask this question; Could this be related at all to the Yellowstone caldera (or whatever it's called) that's been expanding for the past few decades? If the thing's slowly building pressure for an eruption, could gas be pushed out from this far away?

If I had been drinking anything, it would have come from my nose after reading that. =)

Oh-oh, I see a name change in the making ":^{
From
this article...
"Skinner said the leaks and geysers were occurring closest to
Winter Camp Creek, formerly Dead Indian Creek. Sunday evening, one eruption was reported in Kingfisher Creek, "up to within a mile" west of the city of Kingfisher, Skinner said, but that leak had ceased. Winter Camp Creek flows into Kingfisher Creek, which could explain why an eruption would occur near the city, he said."
