Geysers erupt across county (Kingfisher, OK)

KINGFISHER -- State and local officials are puzzled by a series of geysers that have erupted in recent days in Kingfisher County, spewing mud and gas into the air.

The geysers have appeared throughout the countryside, with stretches of up to 12 miles between spots, and some as short as a quarter of a mile, Kingfisher Fire Chief John Crawford said.

The threat of the gas igniting is "unlikely," Crawford said, but a bigger concern is the gas could begin coming up through water-well lines.

The TV report said that there is an odor but it is not the odor we normally smell (because the stink is added). The guy said it was something like the oven smells (???). Like I said before, the reporting is problematic around here.

Anyone doing any testing on whatever's being burped?

That's easy to say....When you don't have a life to maintain here. I live within 50 miles of this area. I cannot just pick up and leave on the off-chance that it will blow. Kids have school, husband has work. All we can do is make sure we're right with God!

Maybe it will erupt over Christmas, when we are out of town.

Thanks for the picture...ummm, isn't the name of the creek a little insensitive - surprised the PC police haven't gotten it changed yet.

They were going to change it to "Dead Native-American Creek", but they couldn't fit it on the sign.. 8)

Well, I would think this would be hog heaven for the scientific types. I'd hope at least a few would be crawling all over the place :) Heck, I would if I lived nearby.

Spooky, indeed!

I live about 50 miles south of Dallas and I'm feeling spooked!

Not as insensitive as Custer and the slaughter of chief Black Kettle and his tribe. Dead Indian creek runs just a few miles from the National park dedicated to Black Kettle. I live just a few miles away. Custer got his own a few years later. If it makes any difference, they are drilling like mad in this area for natural gas.....I believe the geysers might be a blowback from these activities.......

well, I had forgotten, but about 2 years ago, they officially changed the name of Dead Indian Creek to Winter Camp Creek

PC hasn't reached further west, it's still Dead Indian Creek here....

If this has was noticed on Friday, I have to wonder why an analysis hasn't been completed -- guess the scientific types don't work on the weekends.

I really am tempted to drive over there and have a look, but I imagine the area is probably jammed up with newsies and other curious types.

My Wife and I do a lot of canoing and often see bubbles spewing from the bottom of many of the creeks and rivers we paddle. Never thought much about it before but, this is very interesting due to it's scope and the fact it's happening on land.

How would that work?

The amount of wells going into the Anadarko Basin are unbelievable, I can't believe they can drill them this fast...hundreds a month...and they're deep, 30-35000 feet. IMHO the extraction rate is causing shifts way down low, and my guess is these are natural gas geysers, not a result of a pipeline leak. All IMHO of course.

Latest from TV - verified that it is natural gas, source of natural gas unknown, not a leak from a pipe, no new geysers during the past day, no seismic activity in past two weeks, geysers aren't bubbling up/shooting up as high as earlier in the day so the situation may be stabilizing, amount of natural gas leaking is significant - however it would take a blow torch to ignite it (unless a geyser develops under your house).

These geysers constantly erupting could be a major sign of a pending volcanic erupting under the area. I would highly suggest you check to see if there are any underground magma chambers in or around the city of Kingfisher.

If you a living near this area and there are magma chambers underneath you, GET OUT OF TOWN NOW BY AT LEAST A HUNDRED MILES AWAY!!

Has Bush been down there!
