It is well known by families of the elderly that as they age and loose control of their mental facilities, they loose the screen between what floats through their brains and what comes out their mouths.
One daughter at a meeting in the retirement home with her mom at a meeting to discuss emergency evacuation plans was shocked when her mom asked the presenter why she was so "damn fat" when the speaker opened to questions from the audience.
Her mom would have never spoken like that before. She was totally prim and proper. Her daughter immediately stood and apologized for her mother's question and she told her mom to be quiet. Just imagine the crazy things floating through your brain coming out your mouth and you will understand Chris' dilemma with his dad. He's probably doing other inappropriate things as well.

Little kids say what they think because they haven't learned they can't yet. Sometimes I think the elderly say what they think because they have learned that they can:')

#75..I see we see the same possibilities..It was a real adventure and a trial at times with my mother..I did not know how bad it was going to get..I then yearned for the occasionally very embarrassing moments when she still knew who I was.
On her own she had made me her trustee and gave me power of attorney when she was still in good shape. She insisted.
I don't see Mike as the kind who would have done that somehow..

I had a grandmother, whom, at the end of her life, used to criticize (loudly) people for being fat.
I just thought it was low class. I had no idea it was because they lose the "screen" between their thoughts and their mouths (as you put it.).
