Chris Wallace: Mike Wallace Has 'Lost It'

"Fox News Sunday" anchorman Chris Wallace says father Mike Wallace has "lost it" - after the legendary CBS newsman told the Boston Globe last week that the fact George Bush had been elected president shows America is "[expletive]-up."

"He's lost it. The man has lost it. What can I say," the younger Wallace lamented to WRKO Boston radio host Howie Carr on Friday.

"He's 87-years old and things have set in," the Fox anchor continued. "I mean, we're going to have a competence hearing pretty soon."

Wallace Jr. quickly dispelled any notion that he was joking. When Carr suggested that his comments were likely to be covered by NewsMax, he responded: "You know what? Fine. Go ahead. Call them. That's fine. I'll stand by that."

Returning to the topic of his father's competence, Wallace Jr. explained: "He's checked out. I don't understand it," beyond the fact that Wallace Sr. has "problems with the war."

"I don't know why he said what he said," he added.

On Thursday, the elder Wallace told the Boston Globe that if he had the chance to interview President Bush, he'd ask:

"What in the world prepared you to be the commander in chief of the largest superpower in the world? In your background, Mr. President, you apparently were incurious. You didn't want to travel. You knew very little about the military. . . . The governor of Texas doesn't have the kind of power that some governors have. . . . Why do you think they nominated you? . . . Do you think that has anything to do with the fact that the country is so [expletive] up?"

Mike Wallace's lunacy is possibly jeopardizing his son's career. And people are always saying, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

I don't blame him for speaking up, either.

In your background, Mr. President, you apparently were incurious. You didn't want to travel.

Not wanting to travel makes you incurious? Typical Northeast, elitist, tunnel-vision snobbery. You don't want to do the Grand Tour? C'est une honte! What a dolt you must be!

Respect must be earned but I believe all parents should be honored, no matter how bad they were. All of them have done at least one thing wonderful. They choose to let us live when they could have killed us.

BS! If the parent is wrong - their wrong. My Mom is a socialist and I tell my friends about her views and how f***d up she is.

One could be forgiven for thinking Jimmy Carter could have been asked at least part of this today!

In one sentence Mike Wallace refers to the USA as a "superpower." A few sentences later he says the country is f*cked up. Well, which is it?

A son or daughter should never speak ill of his parents in private, and to do so in public is rotten.

Sorry, Mike Wallace is a public figure, and his son Chris was taking this from a professional point of view.

My mother is a democrat. I would never speak that way about her.

My liberal girfriend insisted on watching 60 mi"NUTS" when they interviewed Mike Wallace.

Katie Commic looked like she had an orgasm every time he spoke. Must be her commie idol.

Is there a link anywhere to the audio of Chris Wallace's WRKO interview?

At Mike's age senile dementia may play a part...and I am not kidding around. Didn't Mike have a run in in some deli? I could be reading this wrong but having witnessed how strident someone with dementia may become before they finally lose their abilities to think straight is very difficult because they may seem otherwise normal.

Whatever they may have thought important before may become magnified to a point of "losing it"and becoming irrational...and one cannot reason with them. Mike may be at this point.
Just a thought.

"what in the world prepared Bill Clinton to be CIC?"

That was my first thought. My second thought was that the President was a military officer for six years while Bill Clinton was in Oxford where he didn't inhale, didn't get drafted, didn't enlist and didn't get a degree.

I don't know that he spoke ill of his dad. After all, it is his family. He can say what he likes if factual (if not he's in a bit of a jamb).

At least Chris has the stones to sa what needs to be said, even if it is about his own Dad. Yeah, you can disagree with the Bush Administration on certain issues, but as a supposedly professional journalist Wallace Sr. has definitely "lost it."

Incurious? The old man has not talked to anyone outside his social circles in twenty years. As regards the military, they hate him. He once came to Ramstein Air Base and sat outside the local BX. An crowd gathered around and starred at him as if he were some kind of exotic animal. If looks could kill he would have been dead in twenty seconds. The Base Commander had put out the word not to say nothing to him. Some kids did make unflattering remarks, and you could tell he felt the hostility.
