Except Cronkite was talking about the 51% of the voting population that re-elected W.
Oh. I didn't get that from your statement. And if that was the case is Cronkite admitting he voted for Bush? I don't think so....
The son chose his country over his father.
For that, I give him a standing ovation.
Courage, is courage.
Sounds like the poor guy has just the regular Dem-buttitus, what else is new?
Yes, but Bubba has always liked to travel to foreign lands and give speeches that show his brilliance about Globalism and the dangers of sovereignty and patriotism (looks good on his resume for the UN head honco post). His international travels started back during the Vietnam war. He effectively evaded the draft and went to England to study and organize anti-war protests. In his spare time, he toured the Soviet Union and the Eastern bloc. No one knows how he paid for this travel, being a poor college student at Oxford.
Time marches on. People grow up. Well, at least some of them did. I think W did, but not Bill, not at all. He is still an angry damaged little/big boy who needs a big stage and lots of attention. Wallace and others in the MSM ignore the devastation done by Clinton, but they get a huge burr up their bums for the likes of George W. Doesn't make very much sense, does it? But if Wallace is senile, then what does that make Teddy, Kerry, Dean, Pelosi, Boxer, Shumer, to name a few, who say equally nutty things that truly do endanger our Nation?
Thank goodness Chris Wallace is his own man.
Mike Wallace lost it decades ago.
There is nothing inappropriate about that.
Now, if Chris Wallace, son of Mike Wallace, were publicly criticizing Mike Wallace over something related to their family relationship, that would be a different matter.
A few weeks ago Chris described Mitt Romney as "an enormously attractive man" on Howie's show, and Howie hasn't let Chris live it down. So Chris knew what he was getting into here.
Daddy is a media professional. He knew that by revealing his bias, he would be knifing his son in the back. Junior has to be seen as unbiased, fair, and balanced to keep his job with Fox. If he fails to reject his fathers bias, it is the son who would suffer. Mike Wallace was well aware of what damage he was doing to his own son.
Only parents who hate their own children would condem a child for defending himself from his fathers attempt to destroy his son's career.
Obviously Mike Wallace dislikes his son and wanted to punish him for failing to be a biased liberal. So Daddy in the twilight of his career decides to ruin his son's.
Mike Wallace is disgusting. His son did what he had to do.
Heehee, I heard that. Talking about a "man crush" or something. They enjoy goofing on each other.
It was also obvious, in that interview, the Sr. Wallace faculties are declining.
Both Mike Wallace comments and his phraseology were wrong. I admire Chris Wallace for stating it publicly and standing up to his father. If he were my father or brother I would have done the same if questioned about it.
Chris Wallace has much decency and class, and will stand up for principle, even publicly to his own father. I deeply admire him for this. He is a man of great principle and character. Each time I see him, my respect for him grows. This latest incident only greatly increases my esteem. It could not have been easy to have chosen principle and love for his country over his love for his father.
Exactly right. Chris's criticism was directed at a public figure who just happens to be his father.
I'm not "making nice with the enemy" I'm an advocate for the elderly though.
Nicely put.
Agreed.
He could have distanced himself (a long way) without being deeply disrespectful. A potential competency hearing is private family business.
(This reminds me of some delightful, but entirely inappropriate, remarks that David Brinkley made on the air about Clinton. Also, I heard that old fool Andy Rooney say during a millenium broadcast that their was nothing useful on the Internet, that it was for idiots. He was not kidding. The reluctance of network suits to pull the plug on these old farts shows how their obsession with the earning potential of their established "properties" completly overwhelms any critical judgement you might expect them to exercise.)
On the contrary- there is a great deal of love between Chris Wallace and his father- I saw it displayed in a very moving interview not long ago.
What there isn't- between them- is an agreement on the war and the policies of the president.
It couldn't have been easy for Chris to say what he did about his dad- I admire him for it.
Welcome to FR.
Age doesn't always bring wisdom.

Wallace Arrested in Police Confrontation. Written by RatherBiased.com August 11, 2004 | 03:52:10 EDT
Mike Wallace, long-time correspondent for CBS's 60 Minutes was arrested and taken to a police station after getting in a heated argument with New York City police officers, during which he allegedly lunged at them.
The incident happened after two Taxi and Limousine Commission inspectors began questioning Wallace's hired driver for being double-parked outside a local deli where the 86-year-old CBSer was ordering a take-out meatloaf.
While the conversation between the three men was taking place, Wallace emerged from the restaurant and began arguing with them as the inspectors began trying to look at the driver's license.
The argument became heated and the officers asked Wallace to go back inside the car on three occasions, according to police officials.
"At one point Mr. Wallace appeared to lunge toward one of the two inspectors. The other inspector became concerned with his partner's safety and at that point cuffed Mr. Wallace," TLC spokesman Allan Fromberg said at a news conference.
"I'm 86 years old! I'm 86 years old! What are you doing? I'm a reporter, not a criminal," Wallace exclaimed while he was being put into handcuffs, the owner of the restaurant said in an interview with New York's Daily News.
