John McCain: "Christian Guard at Hua Lo Prison", "helped me understand power of my faith"
amazon.com ^ | December 2005 | John McCain

Posted on 12/10/2005 5:49:29 PM PST by freedomdefender

In Part Four of his new book, "Character is Destiny," McCain writes about his role as chaplain for Christmas service in his Vietnamese prison, and about a guard who snuck in at night to loosen the ropes that bound McCain, and then snuck in in the morning to tighten them before other guards could notice.

The guard said nothing while performing this kindness, but one time, in the yard, "I became aware of him as he walked near me and then, for a moment, stood very close to me. He did not speak or smile or look at me. He just stared at the ground and then, very casually, he used his foot to draw a cross in the dirt. We both stood looking at his work for a minute until he rubbed it out and walked away."

Perhaps McCain is making obvious Christian statements to gain support for 2008.

Unfortunately, that is what crossed my mind too.

He is a media whore as his 'campaign finance reform bill' and his 'terrorism bill' prove.

McCain's book is sub-titled "Me, Myself and I".

Reminds me of The Rapist's photo-op at Normandy, when he made a little cross out of stones that were conveniently piled there for the purpose.

I've heard similar stories told by Aussie prisoners of Japan during WWII...one story was of a guard who brought extra food,etc...secretly...so that the other guards wouldn't report him, which would have resulted in execution.

So there is a possibility that McInsane isn't making this up? Has anyone ever heard him mention this before?

I hate to be cynical, because not every single enemy soldier was rotten, but look who we're talking about.

That is very moving. God always has his faithful, even in places where the government disallows it. God's kingdom cannot be stopped, ever!

If you have the chance, pick up Wurbrnad's book Tortured for Christ concerning the undergorund Church in Romania and the USSR under Communism.

Ah, but New Hampshire...
that's where I had them.
They laughed at me and made jokes,
but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt
and with... geometric logic...

Unfortunately, yeah, that was my first thought as well.

He's still on the outs with Christians because of 2000. Then the judge sell out he orchestrated with his buddy Lott.

G.W.B. has a deep reservoir of identity and trust with people of Faith. His conversion is believed genuine, it's something others connect to. He had that moment when he identified Jesus Christ as his favorite philosopher.

Could be wrong, but everything I know about John McCain makes me disinclined to believe this is anything but an attempt to mimic G.W.B.'s moment in the primaries when that bond was cemented.

Where do you think McCain got the idea?

Ohhhhh : (

That totally figures. Wait a minute, maybe this could account for the fact that McInsane came out of the camp heavier than when he went in?

I am no admirer of McCain the political figure -- he seems to do the Democrats' bidding just about every time they really need him.

However, I don't believe he'd make up a story about his captivity. He is not that lacking in dignity.

The story should be assumed to be true, and it's a wonderful one.

Sounds like a Clinton making a cross with strategically place rocks on Normandy beach. I don't buy McCain's storytelling.

You know, McCain's father was some hugely important guy. Now I remember seeing McCain talk about this. He said the North Vietnamese asked him if he wanted special treatment in the prison camp in deference to his connections. McCain said, "no." Well, you know, if they have to ask you if you're getting special treatment or not--- you're getting it.

But that's quite a moving story if true.

And apparently I am one of the few who believe this story. It is hard to even imagine the uplifting this action would have on a POW. I refuse to be cynical and will give him the benefit of the doubt.

A fantastic story... (and I am not a McCain supporter)!

Wow, this revelation of McCains makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I wonder how much of it is true? I read his autobiography in 1999, and he didn't mention this loosening of ropes in that book. I wonder why. Is McCain undergoing a Kerryesque selective memory enhancement about his war years?

Grain of Salt here!
