"No wonder they call us the Stupid Party," said a disgusted Republican operative in Washington. "You've got to wonder what these guys were thinking."
At issue was the publication of a report by David Barrett, an independent counsel who has spent the better part of a decade looking into some of the most hair-raising allegations of presidential malfeasance in American history.
Like most independent counsels, Barrett didn't set out on such a mission. He was assigned the duty of looking into whether former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros committed tax fraud in trying to cover up payments to a former mistress.
Yet, as published reports have indicated, he soon discovered that he was onto something much bigger. He found unsettling evidence that Justice Department officials were actively interfering with the probe and even conducting surveillance of Barrett and his office. Worse, there were indications that Team Clinton was using key players at the IRS and Justice to harass, frighten and threaten people who somehow got in the former president's way.
The pattern was set early on, when the White House sicced the FBI on Billy Dale, who had served as the director of the White House Travel Office since the days of John F. Kennedy. They mounted a baseless probe of Dale's finances, while chasing after his daughter, his sister and others. Dale was guilty of holding a job coveted by presidential pal Harry Thomasson. But rather than simply firing Dale, the Clinton White House chose to destroy him.

Go Tony!
Tony was in the thick of the impeachment wars, and he knows stuff.
It's hopeless. The Republicans keep taking incoming from Democrats and continue to ignore it in hopes they will eventually play nice. When the Republicans have some ammo of their own they quietly disarm in hopes the Democrats will be grateful. No wonder Dem politicians say every outrageous thing they can think of about the president. They know that in the end there will be no consequences. It's sickening.
PS: Frist won't do a damn thing.
Some of those bureaucrats may still be there and should be held accountable.
I'm not at all hopeful that anything Tony writes about will ever see the light of day. It could be that Dems have threatened total political war if this stuff gets out. Once again the public will be kept in the dark unless someone releases the report illegally ALA the Pentagon papers of Vietnam fame.
:-) Late start, sorry. Your Tony Snow article ping.
Frist is a sniveling pee-wit... a Michels with a majority.
The problem is that the repubs are compromised, and they want to protect their political careers. Not all, but enough.
BTTT
thanks for the post.
Ping
I agree with you. Our only hope is Dennis Hastert, Frist hasnt the guts to do anything.
Its hard to believe Republicans would allow that lying no good POS Kerry to get away with this.
I see no one suggesting we contact Frist and Hastert about this. All I see is moaning and groaning and Republican bashing. I will contact them but I could sure use some help.
Infuriating, there must be a lot of Pubs who are in deep to the Clintons.
What power this pair of white trash continues to yield.
Let's take a page out the dims playbook - LEAK the info, and watch the howling moonbats spit and sputter.
Our "public servants" are a joke. IMHO, I think 90% are looking out for themselves, and public be damned.
I would not be surprised if the plastic box that Hillary maintained (per Lt Col Scott Patterson) maintained compromising information on her enemies as well as her allies.
I just emailed Frist and told him "this is just another reason why I won't contribute to the Republican Party". He said he was sorry.
