SACRAMENTO - Death penalty opponents rallied outside the Capitol on Thursday as lawyers for Stanley Tookie Williams took their case to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in a final effort to spare the Crips gang founder from execution.
A group of about 75 demonstrators chanted, "Love life, save Stan's life," as the governor met behind closed doors with defense lawyers and prosecutors to weigh the fate of a man condemned for four 1979 murders who claims he turned his life around on death row.
Clemency, which would commute a death sentence to life without parole, is likely the only avenue left for the gangster-turned-preacher of peace. Williams, 51, is scheduled to die Tuesday by lethal injection.

This is the bane of liberalism. Our laws are what count. This murderer was convicted and sentenced to death. No evidence has been produced that would counter that verdict. He should die, as he should have 26 years ago (disgusting onto itself)...what Europeans think better not enter into this AT ALL. It is AMERICAN LAW, AMERICAN COURTS and an AMERICAN DEATH PENALTY. Nothing else should enter into it.

God only forgives if the guilty party repents. This guy hasn't done that yet. I do not forgive him and would gladly throw the switch or give the injection, or drop the cyanide capsules into the acid, whatever way they choose to do it.

Since tookie has assumed his seat on a higher plane, and his life is clearly far more valuable than the rest of us who have never written a children's book or founded a blood thirsty pack of street mongrels, I think the only logical course is for one of the "save tookie" crowd to volunteer to take the needle for tookie. I'd support that. The pure altruism of the gesture would be truly impressive. It would certainly be enough to keep me from ever joining a gang.
...and then tookie could run for Secretary General of the UN.

OMG, I read this. WHY is this man even CONSIDERED for clemency? I am NOT a death penalty advocate, but this is sickening. This man should have never been born. The world would have been a better place.
