Sen. John McCain claimed Wednesday that the U.S. is still torturing terrorist detainees, even as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visits with European leaders to assure them that the practice is banned under U.S. law.
"We've got to stop this torture," McCain told radio host Don Imus.
"If you torture somebody, they're going to tell you what they think you want to know in order to make the pain stop," he complained.
The Republican maverick said the U.S. can't win the propaganda war "if people believe throughout the world that you are practicing cruel, inhuman, degrading mistreatment or torture on the people that you capture."
"Right now," McCain complained, "we have prisons, apparently, set up in different places in the world where we're keeping people for years."
His comments come as Dr. Rice meets with European leaders to assure them that claims about ongoing torture are baseless.
"The United States does not condone torture," she told a German audience on Tuesday. "It is against U.S. law to be involved in torture or conspiracy to commit torture. And it is also against U.S. international obligations and the President has made it very clear that U.S. personnel will operate within U.S. law and within our international obligations."
Rice also indicated, however, that interrogations conducted in the foreign prisons referenced by McCain have been productive, telling reporters, "The intelligence we gathered has helped to stop terrorist attacks and saved innocent lives in Europe - as well as in the United States and other countries."
Good. Let the torture continue.
Like 1994, it is time for the lake to turn over.
McCain is no better than the Democrats who are trying to make us lose the war on terror just so that they can score political points. He has a stupid piece of legislation that would ban what he considers torture. If you read the legislation, the definition of torture is far to broad. Further, if the Democrats' talking points are giving aid and comfort to the enemy by emboldening their terrorist efforts against the U.S., then McCain's use of this false talking point is doing the same. How many more Islamofascist terrorist insurgents are going to hold on a little longer and plant a few more IEDs because one of the most prominent members of the ruling Republican Party in the U.S. is saying that we're torturing detainees? How many new terrorist insurgents are going to be created by the news that a top Republican claims that we're torturing detainees? How many more soldiers are going to die because of McCain's big, fat, lying mouth!!? And, the bottom line is, that McCain is doing all of this to score political points, get more camera time, and better his chances of winning the Republican nomination for President in the 2008 election.
This is intolerable. McCain needs to apologize to our armed forces for even implying that they're torturing anyone and realize that no self-respecting Republican should ever vote for him again. He should shut up and forget all future election plans. He should apologize to the parents and spouses of the soldiers who are going to die because of his rhetoric.
"Hey John ! Guess what.......Americans would prefer to see terrorists tortured!!!! Now if we could just get these idiot politicians to stop torturing us with their continual verbal garbage, we would be doing something!"
Frankly, I have a long list of politicians I would enjoy torturing. I believe it is a good practice to torture and severely punish politicians. In fact, I would like to see a comeback of the guillotine. (I am not sure that I am being sarcastic.)
And the democrats just love nut cases. Look at how they swoon over Howard Dean.
----
And that IS THE PLATFORM of the Dem party. That is why they are trashing Leiberman. Good, let the kooks reign supreme over the Thugocrat crime machine. And let's take that scenario to the campaign in 2006/2008 --- where we can contrast a real American CONSERVATIVE against these radical kooks of the left.
Once they found out who he was he was given kid-glove treatment.
Nhan Dan published answers to questions by one of its correspondents made by a U.S. air pirate detained in North Vietnam. "He is Lt. John Sidney McCain . . ."
Hanoi VNA International Service in French - November 9, 1967
"To a question of the correspondent, McCain answered: 'My assignment to the Oriskany, I told myself, was due to serious losses in pilots which were sustained by this aircraft carrier due to its raids over North Vietnam territory and which necessitated replacements. From 10 to 12 pilots were transferred like me from the Forrestal to the Oriskany . . . upon arrival near the target, our formation, with six bombers, would mount the attack according to the following order: I would be number three, and the chief of the formation, number one. Each pilot would have to approach the target from a different direction, the choice of which would be left to him.'"

And he has proof of what? He is so full of it his eyes turned brown. Amen.
I agree. I only hope real American conservatives stand up and boldly rise to the challenge, instead of meekly trying to appease absolutely intransigent and vile dems.

Hillary carries the card wherever she goes.
"If you torture somebody, they're going to tell you what they think you want to know in order to make the pain stop,"
This makes no practical sense. First of all the statement assumes all prisoners react the same way. It is a fact that some people are more resistant than others. Yes they can lie to you, but they remain IN CUSTODY and if they lie they know there will be consequences. Many will not take the chance. Furthermore the information you receive is not going to be false 100% of the time, and many lies are easily detected. What the media is counting as torture is not torture in the traditional sense of the word. It is an aggressive interrogation. By the left's definition, isn't incarceration also a form of torture? What is the alternative? Ask politely and when the prisoner tells you to go F-yourself, you let him go?
pure and simple straight jacket material.
Unfortunately he is TOO CLOSE to the torture issue and needs to recuse himself.
You might like to know that I heard Rep. Sam Johnson on the Laura Ingraham show today.,..and he pretty much said that McCain, with his anti-torture legislation is "aiding and abetting" the enemy....
And Sam Johnson was tortured just as much as McCain in Vietnam...BUT, betcha HE won't get quoted.
You might want to notify your congresscritter and tell him/her that you agree with Johnson...who, I believe, may try to do something on the House side...to change or get rid of McCain's amendment.
BTW...thank you for what you and your family are doing for all of us...God Bless you all!
That cartoon is priceless...
He's absolutely correct - Fall is over, we need to switch to Winter torture...
First, Secretary Rice says that we're not torturing. Second, we're not torturing anyone.

*False witnesses John McCain and John Kerry are in the same Maoist brainwash cycle. Both *U.S. senators* perpetuate adverse and anti-American propaganda on behalf of America's enemies. This is very very peculiar. And, to what end purpose?
I wonder why the Pentagon squaters tolerate this defamation.
Hey Senator, thank you for your service, now GO HOME and shut up!
Amen!
TORTURE INCLUDES DENIAL OF MEDICAL TREATMENT,WHICH IS CRUEL AND INHUMANE.

'For the next three or four days, I lapsed from conscious to unconsciousness During this time, I was taken out to interrogation-which we called a "quiz"-several times. That's when I was hit with all sorts of war-criminal charges. This started on the first day. I refused to give them anything except my name. rank, serial number and date of birth. They beat me around a little bit. I was in such bad shape that when they hit me it would knock me unconscious. They kept saying, "You will not receive any medical treatment until you talk."
I think it was on the fourth day that two guards came in, instead of one. One of them pulled back the blanket to show the other guard my injury. I looked at my knee. It was about the size, shape and color of a football. I remembered that when I was a flying instructor a fellow had ejected from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to us-a man dying of a broken leg. Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me. When I saw it, I said to the guard, "O.K., get the officer." An officer came in after a few minutes. It was the man that we came to know very well as "The Bug." He was a psychotic torturer, one of the worst fiends that we had to deal with. I said, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." He left and came back with a doctor, a guy that we called "Zorba," who was completely incompetent. He squatted down, took my pulse. He did not speak English, but shook his head and jabbered to "The Bug." I asked, "Are you going to take me to the hospital?" "The Bug" replied, "It's too late." I said, "If you take me to the hospital, I'll get well."
"Zorba" took my pulse again, and repeated, "It's too late." They got up and left, and I lapsed into unconsciousness.
Sometime later, "The Bug" came rushing into the room, shouting, "Your father is a big admiral; now we take you to the hospital." '
"I think he's getting senile."
McCain has lost his mind to Hanoi brainwash. Or, maybe he's afraid of losing his head to Islamic terrorists.
