Well, to be fair, he would not have known they were law enforcement, since Sky Marshals wear mufti and attempt to blend in with the other passengers.

This is a TRUE story...
On Hong Kong airport in a Cathay Pacific flight this guy went and sat on his isle seat. The Window seat was taken by a chinese gentleman....
So our guy started lettle chit chat...Hi How are you ? What do you do for a living..
The Chinese gentleman all of sudden got up and walked off the plane..The police came back and promptly arrested our guy....They took him to a detention room and started asking questions.....At last asked him "Why did you tell the chinese gentleman that you are a Bosnian terrorist ??" ...Our guy said "what ?? I told him I am a bass guitarist.."
I understand that my joke is in poor taste..but I just could not resist it....I am sorry...

But, as I understand it, that's not what happened. The law enforcement guys didn't get into it until he ran up the aisle announcing that he had a bomb. The LEOs were plainclothes, so a real terrorist wouldn't know, at least not with any certainty, that they were marshals, until they yelled at him. At that point, a real terrorist would likely have tried to set his bomb off right then, happens all the time in Iraq and Israel. That's what the marshals thought was happening.
Today they have changed their story..now they say they know where he is and there never was a nationwide alert for him..yeah right...CYA

Unforunately, the only fatality was of a panicking man who wanted to get off an airplane.

Well, I'm not entirely convinced of that. Of course, I wasn't there, so I really don't know. What we all heard at first came from the Feds. Now, we are beginning to hear from people on the plane. At least some of them, the people who actually witnessed the events, don't think the guy should have been shot.
But I was replying to your hope that anyone hurt would be a terrorist. And that just was not the case.
Clearly, the security measures were capable of identifiying and neutralizing an emotionially imbalanced man trying to leave an airplane and take his bags with him, while his wife ran behing him. Obviously, these measures were incapable of distinguishing between such a situation and an actual terrorist threat. Not good.
I disagree. This can be emulated as a ruse by individuals who are not emotionally unbalanced. Only a trained psychologist can make this determination and it would probably take a psychologist more than 10-15 seconds to be certain.
there is no practical way an air marshal could make such a determination within the few seconds he has to react.
I don't undertand what there is to disagree with. The part you quoted is a non-judgemental description of what happened, as far as I can tell.

"...WHY can't our SOLDIERS shoot the Terrorists in the FINGERS, or in their HANDS??? instead of a way that killes them??..."
Then her NEXT question, AFTER being told that they are not TRAINED that way because of the risks they could MISS and make the situation worse, would be,
"...so...can't we CHANGE the way our soldiers are TRAINED, so they are TRAINED NOT to KILL the Terrorists ???..."

I have to say, you are exactly right. The terrorist are using old ladies, woman and children to carry bombs....conduct tests of security procedures before an operation.
Terrorist are not exactly of sound mind anyway. Only psychologist can tell the difference between criminal mind and a Bi-Polar individual. That's why they go to college and a higher education to get paid the big bucks. Police and Security training only scratches the surface. You have seconds to make a decision, not enough time to see ink spots, and talk about your childhood. :) I'm with you wideawake.
