Would you be willing to board a plane having "suspicious bags" on it? Case closed.

Scott Peterson and Jeffrey Dahmer were relatively good looking men.

IF that's true.....and all the guy said was he had a bomb and they killed him....I think the marshall is going to be in some big trouble.

I agree that the marshal may end up in big trouble, but I don't agree that he should. (i.e., which is what I think your intent was, Fawn. He could have followed protocol 100%, but if it turns out that the suspect wasn't a terrorist, the air marshal will be judged as though he was supposed to have known that....I don't know, telepathically or something.) Had the case been the other way around -- the person did have a bomb but the air marshal didn't respond -- then the air marshal would have been condemned for not doing anything. He can't win.
As far as the suspect's only behavior being saying that he had a bomb, I agree with your "IF". My understanding is that he also ran and reached into the bag in which he said there was a bomb.

Established? By who? The reports YOU have heard from the MSM? That deserves a double snicker. Since when do we buy anything they tell us? Perhaps she did...perhaps she didn't yell that.

I doubt we will ever know all the details.

Heck no, I was just pointing out the most simplistic explanation of suspicion.

Well, it's a snicker to you right now. But suppose you were a perfectly innocent person flying home from visiting relatives who'd given you the wedding ring of your grandmother who was were killed with your grandfather at Auschwitz, or who'd given you a hand-drawn card made for you by your young grandchild who just died of leukemia. And next thing you know the carry-on bag it's in, that you'd been so careful not to let out of your sight, is being confiscated and blown up. Yes, I'm being a little dramatic, but I hope these bags aren't being blown up without real indication that it's necessary. If every bag that any bomb-sniffing dog has even a faint reaction to is being blown up, that's overboard IMO, since those dogs often react when nothing's really there, and there could just as easily be dozens of bags on other planes right now that would trigger the same reaction.

Sounds pretty well established.

At the immediate moment of conflict, what would have been the determining factor that he had no bomb in his carry on or a remote detonation device rigged to his or his wife's checked baggage?

You know you might want to look into a good lawyer who specializes in SSD.

He might also be able to help recommend a top notch Psychiatrist who can "work the system".

Here's one law office whose speciality is SSD in San Antonio. http://disabilityanalysis.com/

Best of luck to you.

I haven't read the whole thread yet but, if I'm to board a plane, or are already on the plane and someone says he has a bomb... I want the marshalls to shoot first and ask later! The hell with the SOB/asshole's life and rights!

They may not be mutually exclusive but to the MSM it's headlines that sell.

I agree. Especially if the headlines can take a little shine off of Bush's luster, in one way or another..

The bags could contain irreplaceable family photos, or other irreplaceable items treasured by perfectly innocent passengers.

There's a quote in "Accidental Tourist" that says something like "Never take anything on a trip, that if lost, would be devastating."

Yes, it's possible there was, in those bags, the only remaining picture of grandma. More likely, there was some underwear and some very small soaps. From our uninvolved vantage point, it looks goofy to blow up bags, but for them, the consequences of not taking it seriously are much higher. Some incidents of silliness are bound to happen. But one of these times, it might be real.

And Scott Peterson got a fan club........

Point is is that with good looks, this dead guy will attract more attention in the media.

They're not trying to take off a little shine of Bush's luster, they'll claim Bush is responsible for this whole incident.

...they were trying to maintain the "explosive decompression" myth that hollywood has been exploiting for years.

A year or so ago, Mythbusters did a test. They found a passenger jet in an airplane graveyard in a desert somewhere. They mounted a handgun inside, rigged it to fire by remote control, pressurized the cabin to what it would be like at about 35,000 feet then fired the gun. All it did was put a little bullet hole in the fuselage. There was no "explosive decompression".

They repeated the experiment by firing out through a window. Same result.

The idea that a bullet from a handgun could bring down a plane is just silly. If it was true, planes wouldn't be sent off to war -- they'd be too easily shot down.

If they really think it's important to blow up every bag that a dog gives any reaction to, it would be nice if they'd do that as every plane is being loaded/boarded. The next real terrorist isn't statistically likely to end up on the same flight as some random nutcase.

just saying it is pretty well established now.

What "is pretty well established now"?

Bauer in his press conference just now said something that I don't think he should've said.

He disclosed that as soon as this incident happened, other air marshalls went into surveillance mode at other airports around the country to see if there was any coordinated activity.

Good idea, but was it necessary for him to tell the world that's what they are doing?
