White House Christmas Card Questioned
FoxNewscast

Posted on 12/07/2005 9:02:06 AM PST by Grendel9

During the early morning newscast, Fox Talking Heads discussed the pros and cons of the 2005 White House Christmas card. The main criticism is in the fact that the word CHRISTMAS is not found anywhere on the card. On the other hand, the card focuses on the entire holiday season, whatever the recipient's religious leaning.

Card Face: A painting by Jamie Wyeth, son of Andrew Wyeth, depicts the White House. Snow blankets the lawn and a magnificent Pine tree, partially covering the oval office facade. Atop the building, the flag flies fullout in a stiffish breeze. The bottom third of the work features the Bush family pets: Barney, Ms. Beazley (two black Scotties), and India, the Bush black cat.

Inside the card: The 1" gold seal of the President. Beneath that a 1-1/2" statement of Psalm 28:7 (Revised Standard Version) "The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults. And with my song I give thanks to Him."

Then in large script type, the message:

WITH BEST WISHES FOR A HOLIDAY SEASON OF HOPE AND HAPPINESS 2005 With the signatures of George Bush and Laura Bush.

"Christmas Card Questioned"

uh, they didn't use the word "Christmas" but instead put a Bible verse on it. what is the problem here?

i'll be glad to give any retail operation that doesn't want to use the word "Christmas" a break when they start quoting the Bible in their ads.

a made up controversy by someone who doesn't understand the concept.

I have that one and last years also...but not this years (yet?) Of course, today's mail hasn't arrived...

How much of a downer will that be...deleted from the Christmas card list. I really will pout.

I find it interstinmg that Fox News would have a problem with a White House Christmas Card when Fox News and News Corp just held their Holiday Party.

Not only do people not always tell me "Merry Christmas",
they also don't always tell me I'm handsome and a stud, either.

For those few who love feeling like a victim, try being in the Sudan as a Christian or as a missionary in China or nearly any Islamic country.

Got mine today, it was very nice and appreciated, even though it was sent out to a mailing list.

Having worked in business for umpteen years, it is in BAD TASTE to send out Christmas cards to a list of acquaintances, unless you know their preference. I worked for Jewish firm for years, and you would have to be a bonehead, indeed, to assume that all of your associates celebrated Christmas.

2005 Christmas Card

The painting by Jamie Wyeth that portrays a wintery White House as Barney, Miss Beazley and even, Willie the cat, is displayed in the East Room. The painting is the model for this year's White House Christmas Card.

Received my card in Monday's mail. I didn't notice that it didn't say "Merry Christmas" - but I did notice the Bible verse. That pretty much erased any doubt that the Bush family had mistakenly sent me a Kwanza card...

I received the official Senator Thune card yesterday. I thought it was nice to see a casual family photo (the four of them with their cat in front of the fireplace). A verse from Micah and wishes for a Merry Christmas on the inside...

I just think it's funny that O'Reilly's made-up "controversy" ended up snagging both Bush and Fox.
