WASHINGTON -- Four African-American New Orleans residents told a House committee Tuesday that they felt a sense of abandonment from all levels of government when Hurricane Katrina hit three months ago and believe more lives and homes would have been saved had the victims been predominantly white and wealthier.

"People were allowed to die," said Leah Hodges, who told the panel she still doesn't know if her brother survived the hurricane. She likened what happened to New Orleans, and many of its black residents, to "genocide and ethnic cleansing."

I guess her contribution to the economy of NO was insignificant anyhow. Must be living large in College Station. People who live on public assistance (not saying she was) are usually unwanted no matter where they reside.
The only time hanging out on the front porch brings in money is from dealing crack.

A quote from Maxine Waters:

"New Orleans is a chocolate city, but most African-Americans don't participate economically in a meaningful way," the mayor responded. "

Katrina Dead Demographics Released
12-05-2005 2:43 AM

(St. Gabriel, LA) -- Analysis of the people killed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita shows a nearly even split along race lines and gender. Medical examiners say of the more then one thousand victims, about half are white and half are black. About half of the people killed were men, about half were women. In all, the morgue set up to process bodies after the hurricane has recorded one-thousand-90-deaths. Of those, less than five-hundred have been returned to next of kin. Officials are still finding bodies.

Why let facts get in the way of feelings?
If it bleeds it leads.
How they FE-E-EEL is the story, not how it actually played out.

enough of the racism. its getting old. how about laziness? when a storm is coming it doesnt matter what color you are . you use the common sense God gave you..(unless somehow you never had any to begin with. and then i have to wonder where it went & why...due to drugging & drinking or being too lazy to go to school & educate yourself maybe?) and you get your tail out of harms way! lazy is as lazy does. its their own fault for not taking katrina seriously...doesnt matter what color you are. stupid is as stupid does. enough with all this bs

I just hope the Texas taxpayers are paid back by the Fed.
While are hearts are big so are our minds and most of us do not like to be taken for granted or taken advantage of, especially by the ungrateful.

I do wish the news would be more even handed and show more of the good hard working citizens who came here from NOLA.

"Decades of liberal entitlement programs have created this."

BINGO! This is the legacy of the Great Society. Thanks, LBJ!

Great find, that completely debunks her racism accusation.

I guess those people think that a snap of their fingers is the signal we should start serving them.

It is considered by them as discrimination if they are made to fend for themselves for even short periods of time.

And then they think they deserve more than ever because of their inconveniences.

They are an extreme inconvenience to society with that attitude and I am sick of their ungrateful BS.

This jaded testimony just once again goes to prove the axiom you can't cure 'stupid'.

We also need to focus on why none of the good stories ever get reported on. The media is part of the problem. They found a few moaners and complainers out of how many folks who were very thankful and grateful for help?

The MSM was stirring the racism pot after Rita and it didn't work here so they went back to Katrina this and Katrina that. The majority of those helped are thankful yet that does not fit the MSM's agenda so they don't report those things.

The people testifying are in the same camp as John Kerry back in 1971. They are anti-American and appear to be spouting lies and heresay to dramatize their testimony.

The notion of using "concentration camp" imagery to describe the Astrodome is par fo the course. There were rumors in New Orleans during the flood that the Superdome was really a trap. That it was being used as a concentration camp to group up minorities and then torch the whole place in a "gas leak".

The barking moonbats do not care who they harm with their vicious lies.

Scare old people who are seeking shelter. Wonderful.

Excuse me--doesn't the congress have anything better to do than hold these worthless hearings? Is this what we're paying them for?

I thought we were paying them to force hearings on the BCS...at least that's what Joe Barton has in mind.

Texas isn't due money by the Feds. Mayor Bob-White was pushing out businesses who rented the convention center saying "I dare you to sue the city".

Politicians buying re-election with "feel good" offers of aid. Why should the whole nation pay for it? Because Texas/Houston can't? Don't give what you can't afford to give (and I LIVE HERE).

I voted against Mayor Bob-White this time too. He got over 90% of the vote.

Throw the bums out.

They need to have their concioous raise that they enemy is not the White Man, their enemy is the foreighn man whose leader says they will do jobs even American Blacks won't do, and who are right now back there in NO cleaning up, building up, and taking away their place.

NO has had many flags, not just France. Spain was one of them, IINM.

I'm surprised they haven't denounced Katrina as a racist Jim Crow hurricane!

Ten years from now a revisionist historian will refer to Katrina as Hurricane Jim Crow. /prophet
