Easy solution. Have the jury decide now.

This is ridiculous!
Who's is charge, Saddam or the judge!?!
If the judge had a spine he'd have Saddam shackled and wheeled in like Hannibal Lector. Face mask and all!
To: pillbox_girl
Oh I see that idea has already been suggested.
That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard this driving into work.

Imagine if the Nazis had tried pulling this crap at Nuremberg!

Like I said yesterday in another thread....

The court should make it clear -- failure to appear will be taken as changing his plea to "no contest", i.e., automatic guilty verdict.

Since when do crimnals get to decide if they'll show up at court or not?

He can be tried
in absentia. The trial can proceed without his presence. It would deprive the global Left of an anti-American propaganda platform.

Imagine if the Nazis had tried pulling this crap at Nuremberg! Actually, Goehring did his best to come on like a tough guy, to unite his co-defendants and provoke an uprising that would free them.
Didn't work.

Don't they have guards in the courtroom? How about every time he mouths off, you whack So Damn Insane with a 2 X 4? Or better yet a 4 X 12? Oh, sorry, the guards have guns - right? Shoot in the foot and work your way up. Yeah, that's the ticket!
To: HAL9000
This is a game of "Who's in charge?" and so far the judge isn't. Bad scene.

The trial will proceed more rapidly without Saddam's disruptive presence. Declare him being tried in absentia and move on.
I personally think Saddam's lawyers are making a huge tactical error here.....but so much the better for ultimate justice.

I suspect that he is being advised by his lawyers to do what he is doing to throw allegations of this having been an illegitimate trial at the end. There is certain to be an appeal and they are playing to the liberals on the world stage, the type who are assaulting Arnold to grant a stay of execution for TW.

I would have him in the courtroom, whether he consented or not. He can be bound and gagged, if necessary, but he should be required to hear the presentation of the evidence against him, and the witnesses should be allowed to see him face to face.
