Update:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The trial of Saddam Hussein resumed Wednesday after a lengthy delay but without the former president, who had declared the day before that he would not take part in an "unjust" court.

The seven other defendants and Saddam's lawyers were present in the courtroom when Chief Judge Rizgar Mohammed Amin convened the session at 3 p.m., about four hours late.

Amin said the court would inform Saddam about the proceedings that took place during his absence.

Saddam Hussein refuses to take part in the audience of Wednesday

BAGHDAD - the judges of the High Iraqi penal Court and the lawyers of Saddam Hussein are brought together Wednesday before the audience because of the refusal of the former Iraqi president to take part in it, one learned near the court.

Saddam Hussein had reproached Tuesday evening the court for having decided to hold a new audience Wednesday, stressing that after those of Monday and Tuesday, it did not have any more clean clothes and could not smoke nor to go. "Go to the devil!", it had launched in conclusion.

That crib they keep him in must be going to his head. All he needs now is a rattle and a pacifier and he really will be a screaming infant.

NOT A PROBLEM:
Try him in absentia
But force Saddam Hussein to attend his execution

Why do the biggest trials get the stupidest judges?

Why do the biggest trials get the stupidest judges?

With all of the jihadist nutcases runnning around Iraq, the brightest bulb in the judicial pack isn't going to volunteer for this trial.

Does anyone know if anyone is broadcasting the (non)proceedings today?

I'd check CourtTV, but I dunno. I have mandated Federal prison... I mean, education... to attend.

I never realized that attendance was voluntary.

"I never realized that attendance was voluntary."

I never realized that the "Baby Crib" area served the purpose of "Jerry Springer audience Shout-Down Pit"

He's probably overexcited at the possibility of taking Howard Deans's job.

The judge had little control over the courtroom yesterday and he needs desperately to regain that. This cannot be instilling confidence in the Iraqi people that he will be dealt with.

FNC announcing that the judge is meeting in closed quarters to discuss how to deal with Saddam and to get him clean underwear :-)

I smell Ramsey Clark.

He's advising Saddam to act up in court. Standard Marxist behavior.

I'd stick him in some Victoria's Secret underwear and haul him into the darn courthouse wearing that.

Oh, I LOVE that idea! Of course, the left would call that torture vs. the humiliation that it really is.

I'm with you...
What kind of looney-toons court can't force, if necessary, a mass murderer, (ACCUSED mass murderer of course), to attend his trial?

Didn't they cage Ceaucescu for his trial?

Not necessary.
