Denmark’s offensive Jewish cookies [Christmas cookies, Jewish name, Muslims upset]
EJ Press ^ | 12-6-05 | Yigal Romm

A group of Danish Muslims refuse to eat traditional “Jewish” cookies because they feel offended by the name.

According to the daily Danish newspaper B.T., Ole Poulsen, head of the public food consumer department said that the Muslim refusal to buy the cookies could have an effect on sales.

"If this will be the case, then we would be obliged to do something about it," he declared.

He added that changing the product name was a possibility, as had in the past been done with the “Negroes’ kiss” cakes, which were rebranded with a more neutral name.

Educating population

Jewish cookies, which are made with cinnamon and hazelnuts and actually have nothing particularly Jewish about them, are very popular in Denmark during the pre-Christmas period.

Denmark’s chief rabbi, Bent Lexner, said that he did not see any problem in a name change.

“There is nothing Jewish in it and I wouldn’t mind another name, but I think that it would be better to educate Muslims to respect the culture of the majority in Denmark, if they want the majority to respect their culture".

Most of Denmark’s “Jewish” cookies are not kosher and they are therefore not consumed by a large part of the Jewish population.

This article makes me wonder. If you are a Muslim, on an island in the middle of no where, hungry, and the only fish you caught in 3 days was a Jew fish, would you eat it?

Why is it a problem if the Muslims don't buy and eat the cookies? Has Danish socialism gone so far that it is the responsibility of the government to make sure that everybody likes all of the cookies that are sold in the country?????

I think the muslims will buy them if you call them "Sons of a jackal infidel whore" cookies...

How about, "Try our new Virgin Cookies, 72 to a box, with an explosive taste that will just blow you away."

Change the name- sure, go ahead. But add some Lithium to the cooky dough. If ever a bunch needed it, it's Mohammeds Maniacs. Perpetually 'discontented' they might be almost human with some serious meds.

I can't imagine they account for many Christmas cookie sales anyway.

Well, their False-Prophet would have had one of his revelations where Allah told him to eat the fish.

There used to be a anti-Semitic poster with the handle "Joedenkoeke" (Jew Cookie) though I'm not sure if that name is Dutch, Danish, or whatever.

The Viking kitties ate it right up.

Anybody got a recipe?

HERE YOU GO

Jodekager (Makes 3 ½ dozen)

2 ½ Cups of all-purpose flour 1 ½ Teaspoons of cardamom 1 Teaspoon of baking powder ¼ Teaspoon of salt 1 Cup of unsalted butter (no substitutions) 1 Cup of sugar, divided 1 Large egg ½ Cup blanched almonds, ground 1 Large egg white, lightly beaten

Combine the flour, cardamom, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Beat butter and ¾ cup sugar in a mixer bowl until light. Beat in the egg until light and fluffy. At a low speed, gradually add dry ingredients, beating until blended. Shape the dough into a ball; flatten into a disk. Wrap and refrigerate 4 hours.

After 4 hours: Preheat the oven to 375F. Grease 2 cookie sheets. Combine the almonds and remaining 1/3 cup of sugar in a bowl. Divide the dough into quarters. Between 2 sheets of lightly floured wax paper, roll one quarter of the dough to an 1/8 inch thickness (keep the remaining dough refrigerated). Remove the wax paper and cut the dough with a floured 3 inch round or heart shaped cookie cutter. Arrange the cutouts 1 inch apart on the prepared cookie sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg white and sprinkle lightly with the almond-sugar. Bake 8 to 9 minutes, until the edges are golden. Cool completely on wire racks. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and almond-sugar, rerolling the scraps. Decorate if desired.

A recipe from Denmark, the secret ingredient in these Yuletide treats is cardamom - the quintessential Scandinavian spice.

Jødekager (kanelsmåkager)
Ingredienser:

Dej:
250 sukker
300 g smør
2 hele æg
500 g mel
1 tsk hjortetaksalt
½-1 tsk vanillesukker

Mel til at drysse på bordet

Drys
sukker
kanel
evt. hakkede mandler
