Defensive weapons make sense. What would be more worth defending than nuclear weapon facilities? Iran is making a lot of money selling oil, and investing this in nuclear weapons is an option, but what on earth are they trying to do?
Even if they incinerate Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, they can't destroy Israel. Tilting at windmills would be more to the point.

What will be the last thing the Russian leadership thinks about as those missiles are fired at them after the Iranians no longer have a use for the Russians?

Russian weapons systems, buy all you want boys.
Since you have such excellant knowledge of weapons systems, I have located a large number of AMC Pacers which when properly equipted make excellant amored personnel carriers. Their kill ration is second only to the Ford Pinto.

Iran isn't going anywhere. To the west are its enemies the US and Iraq. To its east are its enemies the US and Afghanistan. To the north and south are the seas. It may launch a few missiles, but it will never seize territory as long as the US is in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's pretty much boxed in, and there's little need for a US invasion of any kind.

I would be a lot more concerned about what sneaks into Iran from our good pals in China.

What is to stop Iran from exporting Suitcase-Nukes--once they develop them, of course--the same way they currently export terror. Iran will turn on its allies as soon as its convenient for them.

The chinese are also selling high tech arms to the Iranians, and the Iranians have been invited into the Shanghai Coorperative Organization.

Also, the Chinese will be involved in any sort of war the Russians have in the Middle East (Chinese Manpower)

Some people say that the Chechnya war was sparked by the Russians to whip up Nationalist and Communist support for the Kremlin.
