After Action Report - Al Franken at Edina MN Barnes and Noble.
self

Posted on 12/04/2005 4:00:55 PM PST by Fred Hayek

Al Franken was at the Edina Barnes and Noble today for a book signing/reading/Q&A for his latest book Truth. It pretty much amounted to the standard leftist Bush-bashing: no good happening in Iraq, there were no WMD's(wronng), no ties to Al-Queda (wrong), Bush has no interest in gradually handing over the mission to the Iraqis in order to make money for his Halliburton buddies, no interest in alt. energy sources/science/etc. Steady diatribe of "it's Bush's fault". Last part was going into the Stuart Smalley mode, calling Bush an alcoholic in denial and needing therapy. I did avoid barfing.

I hope you at least yelled some funny insults....or brought some humorous Protest Warrior signs.....

The man does need some humor at his events.

About half the lower level of the B&N was full. I would say the attendence (non-scientific SWAG) was about 300 of mostly fawning Minnesota liberals. I think Enge showed up, couldn't stomach it (was that Enge who said "Go back to Hollywood"?).

Some of the liberals must realize that this guy is simply a cartoon character, don't they? Can they actually be so dumb as to believe what he's saying?

They believe him. Hey, these are the people who follow the mindless pronouncements of Hollyweird idiots. BTW, there was also a Hillary (AntiChrist) for President endorsement.

Off topic, The creators of South Park were on the Charles Osgood program (CBS News Sunday morning program). They admitted that even though they aim at both right and left with their humor, they find it more fun to pick on the lefties - much more thin skinned.

Isn't calling your book Truth kind of like peeing on somebody's leg and telling them that it's raining?

"...calling Bush an alcoholic in denial and needing therapy."

This from a guy that had (has) a cocaine addiction? At least Bush admitted his failings and took steps to correct them. I wonder how Franken reconciles Bush's public admission that he is an alcoholic, with full realization that he is one drink away from a full relapse, and maintained his sobriety for decades can be called "in denial?" Does Franken have even the slightest clue about what he is saying, or does his mouth just keep spewing the usual ignorant rant?

We don't know about Franken's drug addiction status, and he doesn't seem to be inclined to correct his ignorance problems. Sounds like the denial problem is clearly in Franken's court.

Outside of the verbal insults towards Bush, Republicans, and conservatives in general, he was better behaved than expected. If I had known that though, I would have gone in the book signing line (with one of his books, purchased second hand of course ;) ), and whispered: "Al, tell ya a little secret. I'm a Freeper" and let him cut one loose. Then I would be a rich man! Call the lawyer, I hit the lottery! Then of course I would have to leave Minnesota. Then again that wouldn't be a bad thing (especially if I go back to Texas).

Should have stood in line to have him sign Ann Coulter's "How to Talk to a Liberal...".

But he's never let a little thing like that stop him.
Wonder if he was also testing the waters for an 08 run against Norm?
