Sept. 11 Commission: U.S. At Risk
AP via CBS ^ | Dec. 4, 2005

(AP) The U.S. is at great risk for more terrorist attacks because Congress and the White House have failed to enact several strong security measures, members of the former Sept. 11 commission said Sunday.

"It's not a priority for the government right now," said the former chairman, Thomas Kean, ahead of the group's release of a report Monday assessing how well its recommendations have been followed.

"More than four years after 9/11 ... people are not paying attention," the former Republican governor of New Jersey said. "God help us if we have another attack."

Added Lee Hamilton, the former Democratic vice chairman of the commission: "We believe that another attack will occur. It's not a question of if. We are not as well-prepared as we should be."

The five Republicans and five Democrats on the commission, whose recommendations are now promoted through a privately funded group known as the 9/11 Public Discourse Project, conclude that the government deserves "more Fs than As" in responding to their 41 suggested changes.

Since the commission's final report in July 2004, the government has enacted the centerpiece proposal to create a national intelligence director. But the government has stalled on other ideas, including improving communication among emergency responders and shifting federal terrorism-fighting money so it goes to states based on risk level.

We will always be at risk. We need more criticism and I for one am so happy we have the 9/11 (Great Wall) Commission looking out for us.

What standing does and unexected and unaccountable Sept. 11th commission containing Jamie Gorelick have?

Hi All-

We're fighting this so-called war while worrying endlessly about which terrorist prisoners will be "embarrassed" by having panties placed atop their heads. No wonder we're having difficulty prosecuting this war like real warriors. I knew college sororities and fraternities who had tougher pledges than these sissy jihadists.

Tim Russert could be counted on to give the pathetic duo a total pass on Able Danger.

And almost anyone with the good sense the Lord gave a goose know that among the first of the measures to be enacted SHOULD have been -

Close the borders. As well as concentrating on profiles of known types that have engaged in terrorist attacks in the past. Close the borders. The sale of certain materials that are known to have been used in bomb-making has been sharply restricted, but other implements of terrorism are still widely available. Close the borders. The identity of persons applying for visas to visit the US is more heavily scrutinized now, but there is little follow-up on the individuals who go missing after the visa expires. Close the borders. When persons who are in violation of the law concerning their visa status are arrested on other charges, there is no coordinated effort made to detain that individual until their visa status is clarified. Close the borders.

Did I mention making a serious effort to close and control our borders?

As Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or timid."

Well, let's see:
- The left wants to stop the war on terrorism.
- The left doesn't want captured terrorists to be interrogated.
- The borders are still wide open.
- AND NOBODY WILL EVEN TALK ABOUT ABLE DANGER!

From everything I saw, the 9/11 commission's main objective was to protect Klintoon and his cronies. It was possibly the most partisan commission ever created and it never even addressed the real issue, which is that:

Islamofascism is the greatest threat to world peace in our time! At the height of the Cold War, the Soviet Union wasn't nearly as grave a threat as the jihadists, because they were at least rational enough to communicate with us. We know where the terrorists came from, we know what they look like and we know what they believe. If there has ever been a case for "profiling" in the history of mankind, this is it.

This is a HUGE issue. These rats are absolutely using our own laws, traditions and heritage against us. They are well on their way toward silencing anything and everything that speaks out against Islam, or that criticizes Islam. One should NOT have to have a genius IQ to understand that these monsters are incrementally destroying our Constitution, to the end that as soon as they can "make it happen, " Islam will be the only truth and Sharia law will be the only law. They, we're cooked, and we will be into a new era of endless dark ages.

The American most responsible for the 9-11 attack! So much more than just the typical utterly corrupt, thieving democrat Hillary agent crooked lawyer. A mass murderer with the ultimate chutzpah! And butt-ugly to boot!

The Sept. 11 Commission has outlived its usefulness. Its main purpose now s to provide 15 mins. of fame for a bunch of defeated/disgruntled pols.

As long as the term CYA has any meaning, these people will be the working definition.

This little Gorelick group is totally private and billed as a Citizen's watchgroup. I don't believe that all the commissioners are even involved. Betcha Clarke is within that group if for no other reason than to make sure no one stabs him in the back.
