Hillary's Military Offensive
Newsweek ^ | Dec. 12, 2005 issue | Susannah Meadows

Posted on 12/03/2005 10:57:24 PM PST by ncountylee

Clinton's hawkish stance is a two-edged political sword.

This summer, the reserve Officers Association presented Sen. Hillary Clinton with its President's Award for her work on behalf of soldiers. On the morning of the ceremony, the event's organizers were a little nervous. While they were in the White House, the Clintons were never regarded warmly within the ranks or among the brass, and the First Lady was seen as especially hostile to the military. (There are still soldiers who swear by the myth that she banned uniforms at the White House.) It was rumored that some officers were planning to walk out of the award ceremony. As it turned out, the audience did stand up, but not to leave. When Clinton's name was announced, she received a standing ovation. "If you'd asked me three years ago, I would have been surprised," says Lt. Col. Lou Leto, the group's spokesman. "[But] she's one of our strongest advocates."

It is no accident that hawks inside and outside the military are reconsidering Hillary Clinton. She may have entered the Senate in 2001 with three strikes against her—she was a woman, a Democrat and a Clinton. But Senator Clinton immediately began a methodical campaign to undo her image as a dovish liberal with no interest in military affairs. Post 9/11, she was quick to recognize that Democrats—and especially one all but openly running for president—were vulnerable on defense issues. It was a trap she has seemed determined to avoid. She supported the Iraq invasion and has resisted the call for a quick withdrawal championed by Democratic Rep. Murtha. "In the wake of 9/11, America will not vote for anyone they do not trust to protect them," says national-security analyst Lawrence Korb. "She grasps that." In New York, Clinton's pro-military posture helped broaden her appeal

One thing I have never been able to abide about the Clintons and the MSM is this type of story that talks about how masterful Bubba, and now Hillary!, is at manipulating the media and presenting a false face, as if this is an admirable thing.

Pretending to support the military when you in fact do not is not admirable. It is despicable, no matter how well you do it or how much the round-heeled MSM want to let you get away with it.

Does anybody, anywhere have any doubt that the day after the 2008 election, Hillary! would forget every nice thing she ever said or done about the military and return immediately to form?

Anybody?

Anywhere?!?

"The whole article is Absolutely false"

Agree. Hildebeast is not pro-military, by any means. When she came to Germany, she did not make one stop at any of our military bases...two months ago she was up in Watertown, pandering to the farmers, and did not make a stop at Ft. Drum...

50% of the US public who watch nothing but the MSM media will believe her new image. All Hillary needs is an endorsement by Oprah. She needs to be targeted and cornered, just like John Kerry was by the Swift Boat veterans. She should be questioned about who had entered Vince Fosters office before the police arrived, she should be questioned about how she managed to parlay a 10,000 dol;ar campaign gift to 100 ooo thousand in a few months ( insider trading). She should be questioned about her behaviour in the travel gate scandel. Generally she would be publicly revealed as a person of unfit character to occupy the office of POTUS.

Susannah Meadows is a DNC propagandist. Her coverage of John Kerry in Newsweak during the election made Monica Lewinksky blush.

There was a reason why of all Senate committees available to the Mrs. Clinton she selected the Senate Armed Forces committee to be on.

Able Danger lurking out there and the military her weakest link to reclaim her most coveted position alll to herself.

"All Hillary needs is an endorsement by Oprah."

According to CNN, Oprah endorsed her last week. "Encouraged" her to run for President while at some awards show.

A shamefully misleading piece from Newsqeek.

She WILL be our next President, unless the base gets unified and the partry nominates a candidate with wide appeal. There is simply no candidate with her name recognition and brand power. She will attract the best of the campaign talent and she we run like a Republican by stealing our issues with a wink and a nod to her base.

Others are correct about her stance on Healthcare. She will push through a socialistic model that will lead to long wait times and a screeching halt in medical innovation.
