FBI Is Taking Another Look at Forged Prewar Intelligence
LA Times ^ | December 3, 2005 | By Peter Wallsten, Tom Hamburger and Josh Meyer, Times Staff Writers

WASHINGTON — The FBI has reopened an inquiry into one of the most intriguing aspects of the pre-Iraq war intelligence fiasco: how the Bush administration came to rely on forged documents linking Iraq to nuclear weapons materials as part of its justification for the invasion.

The documents inspired intense U.S. interest in the buildup to the war — and they led the CIA to send a former ambassador to the African nation of Niger to investigate whether Iraq had sought the materials there. The ambassador, Joseph C. Wilson IV, found little evidence to support such a claim, and the documents were later deemed to have been forged.

Everybody seemingly knew this information was fake, and very early on. The issue is whether it was used somehow to justify the Iraq war.

Incredible letter, I hope you sent it. The detail and background information you provide is, again, incredible. If I had to make a guess, I'd swear you were Clarice Feldman, the only other writer I've run across with such a grasp on the Wilson/Plame brouhaha.

Read Wilson's words again....via Frontline interview in October 3, 2003. He concluded that the purchase "unlikely" because it would have to have been a conspiracy. He used the word "unlikely" (and says so) to cover his butt.

Gee, last I heard the "oil for food" program was a conspiracy for financial gain by many. If "A" happened and we missed it, "B" could happen also. It's a matter of finding "real" information....not reading Tea leaves at the bottom of the cup.

Yet Pakistan and Libya were able to conspire in purchasing nearly 2000 tons of Niger uranium "off the books"!

Yet Pakistan and Libya were able to sucessfully purchase nearly 2000 tons of Niger uranium "off the books"!

There's a great CBS 60 minutes article dated October 30, 2005 with Ed Bradley. That's only a month ago. It's on the web. Sorry, don't know how to tell you to get to it.Here's bits and pieces.

There was an ex CIA agent named Melissa Mehle who spent 14 years in the Middle East as a covert agent (NOC). She left the agency 3 years ago (2002) and recently struck up a friendship with none other than Valerie Plame.

Mahle said Valerie was working on important national security issues, like keeping tabs on nuclear material and the top world's nuclear scientists. (Valerie sure did a good job on Korea and the Pakistani scientist, didn't she).

When they first met, Wilson says Plame told him she was a risk analyst for an international firm. (But, but Joe said in his book that she outed herself on their third date????) Bradley continues: "But once married, you had to join this cover."

It also says that no one in his immediate family knew.....but I'm certain that Joe said different elsewhere.

There are MANY conflicts in this story......I think it's worth reading if you get a chance.

The media has a vested interest in continuing to promote the big lie about yellow cake in Niger and Wilson's bogus sweet tea drinking trip to Niger.

It keeps the RAT train on the IMPEACHMENT track - very important to their wacko base.

Don't forget that Libya had progressed much further along with their nuclear weapons than anyone had suspected.

Seemingly there were precious few people in the CIA actually doing their job.

Yes, and there have been stories about a joint venture on the part of Libya and Iraq to develope a nuke. Those seem to have gone down the Memory Hole. The media has to maintain Saddam's image as a saintly man.

The media can't decide if the CIA is the enemy or the saints.

Probably a lot of both, but they sure fell down on the job of protecting America.

Too many evildoers planted in the CIA by previous dem presidents. Carter and Clinton come to mind.
