Israel Preparing for Nuclear-Armed Iran, Sharon Says

Jerusalem (CNSNews.com) -- Israel will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons but is not leading the international efforts to prevent that from happening, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Thursday.

"Israel and other countries cannot accept a situation where Iran has nuclear arms. The issue is clear to us, and we are making all the necessary preparations to handle a situation of this kind," Sharon told journalists in Tel Aviv.

Nevertheless, Sharon said that Israel is not leading the international campaign against such a development but is "in close contact with countries that are dealing with the issue."

Israel reaped international condemnation when it bombed Iraq's nuclear reactor shortly before it was to be activated in 1981. But a decade later, at the time of the first American-led Gulf war, world leaders admitted their relief that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had not obtained nuclear weapons.

The U.S., Israel and other countries suspect that Iran is secretly developing nuclear bombs under cover of its nuclear energy program. But Tehran and Moscow, which is helping Iran complete its first nuclear reactor, both deny the charge and say that the reactor is for civilian purposes only.

Sharon said that every diplomatic effort should be exhausted to pressure Iran into stopping its nuclear weapons program before any military action is taken and that he believed such efforts could still be "fruitful."

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Israel's policy was that the diplomatic track was the way to deal with the Iranian nuclear policy.

But the head of Israel's military intelligence, Maj.-Gen. Aharon Ze'evi Farkash, told lawmakers on Wednesday that if the international community does not succeed in bringing Iran to the United Nations Security Council by the end of March, "diplomatic efforts will be pointless."

Iranian affairs expert Menashe Amir said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has taken a tougher stance with the international community than his predecessors, believing that the West will back down first.

Nevertheless, Western nations must take a strong stand against Iran's policies, he said.

On Thursday, IRNA -- Iran's state news agency -- quoted Ahmadinejad as defending his country's right to develop nuclear technology. He said that the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had passed a resolution against Iran but backed down when he stood tough.

"We sent the message to Westerners that we would stand firm to the end and that we would never abandon our right, and when they realized [Iran] is firm in its stands, they backed off," Ahmadinejad said.

The IAEA's board of governors decided against sending the issue of Iran's nuclear program to the U.N. Security Council last week -- a move that the U.S. has advocated for some time now.

Russia has allready told the stupid turd head Mullahs that they have no chance of getting one past Israels Arrow system...even if they launch 20 Shihab whatevers.

Israel has operatives in Iran...knows who leaves home to do what in the morning.
U.S. and Israel sat coverage coupled with Intel margins Iran would have to be David Copperfield to hoodwink them.

U.S. is serously concerned however in a Iran which starts to broker nuke warheads to nations which secretly pine for such.
Egypt,Iran,Syria now have Ukranian KH 55 cruise missile which they can nock copies off from.
all they need is nuke warheads.
I beleive this was part of the grand plan which A.Q. Khan was part of.
U.S. has stopped N.K for now....which means Islamic dreams of nukes will have to wait awhile.
U.S. would definitely attack Iran suddenly if they caught wind of them trying to broker nukes.

Anyhoo....the turd head Mullahs have no place to run....unless Mussaraf of Pakistan is going to put them up too.
If they launch on Israel......they are doomed.
Yes they are retarded....but not completely : )

I would imagine the plan is to isolate Iran politically and make them twist while the money scatters like rats.
They are in internal chaos allready with the money leaving the country.
The Lucid know its only a matter of time.
If back channels of communication completely fail,
U.S. will undertake and neutralize Iran.
Russia will not go into the stone age to defend Iran.

Do you even bother to even do a little research on how the balance of power would dramatically shift if,(watch closely now) the redeemed Iran joins, renewed Iraq, red-handed Libya, brave little Israel and the Coalition against the remaining NationStates in the world underwriting the War On World Terrorism?

And not one shot fired?

End Game is a moment away.

Here in the last several months it was reported that the U.S. sold many bunker buster bombs to Israel. I am not sure but I think they are filled with depleted uranium and go through steel and concrete like a hot knife through butter.

The only thing that is going to dramatically shift is Satellites being tasked.....then the hammer falls.

Russia and China will not cross the Rubicon...it will be proxy war if it comes to anything.
That means Muzzies are the chess piece shoved in.
Muzzies may be insane....but not completely so.

There is a reason the U.S. has allowed the miserable Saudi's to survive and it plugs in with Sunni stay in power....no Caliphate/Theocracy thing.
Iraq is an attempt at turning the tide.....it will take time....and there is a Plan B.
Up till Gulf War 1,....It was... Brave Little Israel on the ready line.
Its the U.S.'s time now to stare down Islam and the malcontents like Russia,France and Chi coms.

Have some Faith in the U.S. and Israel.

"hatred of the U.S. will grow ten-fold in the region"

Can't get any worst than it is right now.

Sure enough Joe. It's right out of the Child's Primer on MAD.

The intel and drawn premises rule out total annihilation of all that beautiful in-place war infrastructure.

Still playing the ole "hatred of the US" card?

It's sort of an amusing hold-over from simpler times.

Israel and other Western nations would likely do well to prevent Iran from going nuclear. Supporting the modern secular nation state called Israel from the mistaken perspective that it is yet to play some sort of role in 'prophecy' is a poor basis upon which to do so.

The Russians have lost their minds selling billions in arms to, and building a nuclear reactor, for the Mullahs in Tehran. They only want to f*ck the U.S. at any cost.

I say it's time to tell Putin and his KGB gang that we will heavily arm the Chechens with sophisticated weapory unless they stop arming Iran.

It is my guess that you are supportive of this, this, this and this.

God is not through with Israel yet. He has a plan. It is the in the Bible and it is in plain view for all to read. Also God blesses those who bless Israel and a curse lies on those who don't.

No, I no more support the religious bigotry and violent fanaticism of Hezbollah than I support the racial/religious bigotry of Zionists. I am a Christian, not an ally of every nut case claiming a sand box in the middle east for their 'holy land.'
