HE WAS just a kid. On the day he died, Fernando Correa "Fernandito" to his mama did not fear the teen who was harassing him.
His mom warned him against leaving the house. But Fernando shrugged her off. For he was a gentle, 200-pound football star at Alfred E. Smith Vocational HS in The Bronx. He was too big. And his foe was too young.
"He told me, 'Mommy, he's just a kid like me! He's not gonna have a gun,' " Evelyn Ortiz remembered. "And that's the last words I heard from him," Evelyn said.
And she cried. "In two minutes, he was gone..." < snip >
Like Fernando, Officer Dillon Stewart died when senseless rage formed a combustible combination with easy access to firearms.
Where does it end?
"Terrible. Terrible," Evelyn moaned about the latest shooting. "These guns have to come off the street."
"He was 16 years old," Evelyn cried. "Where did he get a gun?" But she knows the answer. Guns are all too easy to get. And even simpler to use.
"I hate guns," Evelyn said. And as she does every day, she replayed her son's death in her head. Over and over again.
"Something has to be done. The guns. The gangs. It's bad. I wish there were no guns. I wish the law said that no people should ever have guns. Just the cops..."
Evelyn spoke to me from Florida, where she has fled with her two other children: Abigail, who is 16, and Daniel, 12. Although Florida has notoriously lax gun-control laws, she feels safer there... < snip >
How many more sons must die?
When will we get rid of the guns?

Todays effort is a real doozy! See if you can follow the logic here:
Did I lose you there? Did you have a little trouble making sense of that?
If you did, you'll never make it in the high-flying intellectual stratosphere that liberal journalists like Andrea Peyser inhabit. You rube.
I wish Cro Magnon man had banned cudgels.
{I wish the law said that no people should ever have guns. Just the cops..."}
Using her logic and that of the MSM, why do cops need guns. Just pass laws outlawing all citizens from having any guns and there would no longer be any. Thus not even police would need guns (except when putting an aggressive or injured animal down).
someone needs to be checking deposits into this womans accounts
This women is a facists wet dream.
The only reason that approach isn't used is because it makes sense and puts the power in the hands of the people rather than the government.

First off, you have my deepest sorrow on the loss of your son. I'm wondering, though, if you noticed something else in your story. Your son, a law-abiding nice kid, did not have a gun. The kid bugging him was a thug, and he had a gun. The thug shot and killed your law-abiding boy. How will taking away guns prevent the criminals from obtaining them and shooting other unarmed boys?
If we just add a few more laws, crime will stop.
Here we go again, locals attacking neighbors legal with guns instead of criminals within their own circles. It's typical social me me extortive mind. The media playing on the emotion of people is disgusting.
Here's a woman who believes it takes a village (and everyone else) to raise her child.
Why then Evelyn, in your perfect world where all the guns were rounded up, would cops need guns? Wouldn't a heavy stick suffice? Why would cops still need guns?
Brooklyn man indicted in fatal shooting of one police officer Dillon Stewart, wounding of another
From the above article:
Police officials said a search of the suspect's car produced more than 50 small bags of marijuana and shell casings that matched the alleged murder weapon, a 9mm handgun reported stolen in Florida in 1999.
I guess theft could be considered "easy access". /sarcasm
of COURSE she feels safer there, more citizens with legal guns that can protect her other children.
Then we would need heavy stick control laws, then medium stick laws, then little stick laws, then....
My wife forsees a day when no mother will send her child out of the house unless he/she is swaddled in bubblewrap from head to toe and topped off with a crash helmet.
Really?
This 16 year old went to a Licensed Gun dealer with his FFL, and selected his weapon, then submitted himself for the background check and waited the 7 days to be able to purchase this handgun? He then went to his local Precinct and applied for a "Concealed Carry Permit", and had to go thru all the hoops required, only to be denied by the local LIEberal PD? So, this kid then appealed and it took how long to get his final approval to Carry?
No?
You say this kid went to a local KNOWN hood, who sold/gave him this gun, which in itself was probably stolen and/or used in another crime...it's serial # filed/acided off...and stuck the weapon in his pants with the sole purpose of pulling it and using it on another person who was not robbing/treatening him with bodily harm?
Hmm...see, the FIRST scenario is what honest, law-abiding citizens have to do to buy a shiny new, or well-cared for used gun at a Gun Shop, and what they have to do to legally obtain a CCW permit in a LIEberal-dominated society.
The second is what criminals do...ina LIEberal-dominated society
So, if criminals have access easier and cheaper to weapons that were stolen/not obtained legally, and you FOOLS want even MORE laws so that the law abiding innocent citizen can't get one to protect themselves from the very same predators you supposedly oppose (Unless they are like Tookie, right LIEbs? He used guns and murdered, but in his case, it's ok?)...aren't you in fact subsidizing crime, and supporting/allowing it?
These morons are so brain dead it isn't funny! They should not be allowed to breed, let alone have ANY vote/say in what the laws are!
"...I wish there were no guns. I wish the law said that no people should ever have guns. Just the cops..."
I wish there were no pens. I wish the law said that no people should ever have pens. Just the cops....
Bury your kid and shut up. Stop using your child's death to focus a spotlight on yourself.
