Or maybe heroin or some morphine based drug that would render you immune to pain.

I don't know anything about the affects of these drugs, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but might heroine or a morphine based drug cause the taker to want to loll around and enjoy the high rather than head into battle?

Janis Joplin commented on this effect. The user may have all kinds of plans and things to do and the energy level to do it, but just sits there immobile until it wears off.

Possibly. Morphine and heroin are strong narcotics that depress central nervous system function along with decreasing pain. Many patients I administer morphine to find themselves becoming mentally "sluggish" but not all.
