Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday appointed longtime Republican budget adviser Michael C. Genest to serve as his third finance director in little more than two years.
Genest, 58, spent five years as the head budget aide to Senate Republicans before joining Schwarzenegger's finance department in 2003 as chief deputy director. He has been the acting director of the Department of Finance since September.
Assemblyman John Laird, D-Santa Cruz, chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, described Genest as a "a strong conservative with a pragmatic streak."

Do you think people here are rooting for Arnold's failure, even if it also means disaster for CA?
Apparently you are too dense to read the California side bar.
CA: Governor names veteran analyst as new chief of finance.
The guy is another of Pete Wilson's stooges, but he's not going to work without a fly on the wall for the Democrats:
Were you rooting for Gray Davis' failure, even if it also means disaster for California?
Is any criticism of any politician unjustified, because it means the disaster of the area he is representing? Your logic is that all politicians are exempt from criticism, because that would be rooting for bad things to happen?
Well, it seems like it has a different title, it doesn't have Schwarzenegger in the title, nor anyone bothered to enter it into keywords.
I do a search, I don't spend two days reading every article, to see if one has been posted about a similar topic.
Your claim was that there wasn't one article, but there was one posted here only five hours ago (not "two days"), and it was posted by one of your nemeses to boot, so you can't continue to falsely claim a conservative blackout on what you would call "good news" as you were implying. Of course, there's little indication that it really is good news and that you would have to tout a Republican governor hiring a Republican as newsworthy just shows how bankrupt your case for Arnold really is.
You are full of crap, as usual, FO. Best you stop deluding yourself along with everybody else. You've been betrayed. Get over it and cut out with the battered Republican syndrome.
You are much too gracious where I was ready to be less than kind and I'll leave it at that..
Dog bites man is never a story....only man bites dog.
'Republican' Governor appoints Republican' is not a surprise.
'Republican' Governor appoints gay pro-abort Davis/Feinstein hack as Chief of Staff' shocks the senses a bit, don't you think?
FO has been crying out for an intervention for quite some time. Thank you for helping administer a well-deserved bitch-slapping to our "lil frien'."
Do you think people here are rooting for Arnold's failure, even if it also means disaster for CA?
Arnold's bid to save Kalifornia was doomed from the start.
The Republican party in CA is so shellshocked by their consistent drubbing, they cower at the prospect of competition.
The result was that Arnold was, from the start, alone. Nobody was helping him, so when the unions and Dems joined forces against him, he lost.
Now the one true opportunity at reform has been lost. Not good, but it certainly wasn't Arnold's fault.
Send him a sign for his desk: "The buck NEVER stops here!"
Cue the violins.
Ah, if only California's problems were his co-star's feminine a$$... now, that's something he'd know how to handle.
Yeah, he'd find a way to grope with the problems in that case...
Have you ever heard of "dog bites man" news vs. "man bites dog" news? Of course, when a member of a certain political party appoints someone from his own party, that isn't surprising. When a Democrat appoints a Democrat, that is not news. When a Democrat appoints a Republican that is news. If a Democrat appopinted an extreme Republican who was a key official for his predecessor to his number one role, that would be huge news. That's why this is news, if you can fathom that.
I am personally tired of the moonbats on our side who go on a personal jihad against any republican that is not pure enough for them to support.
There are now more people on FR who are criticizing the moderates that who are criticizing the liberals.
I'll bet there are more anti bush attacks than anti hillary attacks.
You are free to defend Arnold's record as "moderate," but I warn you, it isn't.
For your listening pleasure...
Say it with me now...
D-O-N-E.
Ta ta.
