University Cancels Class on Creationism
By JOHN MILBURN, Associated Press Writer 19 minutes ago
A University of Kansas course devoted to debunking creationism and intelligent design has been canceled after the professor caused a furor by sending an e-mail mocking Christian fundamentalists.
Twenty-five students had enrolled in the course, "Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and Other Religious Mythologies," which had been scheduled for the spring.
Professor Paul Mirecki, chairman of religious studies, canceled the class Wednesday, the university said.
Mirecki recently posted an e-mail on a student organization forum in which he referred to religious conservatives as "fundies" and said a course depicting intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face."

I take the
World Net Daily with a grain of salt. Furthermore, all the quotes from Mirecki seemed to reveal a guy with a caustic sense of humor. What I read as sarcasm, the WND author seems to take it literally.
As I already posted, I have had personal correspondence with him, and my experience was that Mirecki was a believer in God. Also, his supposed anti-Catholic bias was missing in our correspondence.

I know that people change, so I might have an outdated idea of Mirecki's philosophy.
That being said, his posts read like an Emo Philips' routine. Mirecki wrote:
I had my first Catholic holy communion when I was a kid in Chicago and when I took the bread-wafer the first time, it stuck to the roof of my mouth, and as I was secretly trying to pry it off with my tongue as I was walking back to my pew with white clothes and with my hands folded, all I could think was that it was Jesus skin, and I started to puke, but I sucked it in and drank my own puke.
Do you really think that the above anecdote is factual? It seems to me that Mirecki's is a manqué humorist.
It reminds me of Emo Philips' joke:
When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bike. Then I realized that the Lord doesnt work that way, so I stole one and asked him to forgive me.

I would have loved taking this course. I would have failed, but I would have made the professor life miserable. I'm sure there were many others who felt like you, and that's the real reason why they canceled the course.
A little Christian intimidation always works.

I take the World Net Daily with a grain of salt. I stopped reading WND when it became a vehicle for Joe Farah's campaign against evolution.
It could have been a serious conservative news outlet with a real future. But Farah's an idiot.
There are lots of us out here with no respect for anti-evolution zealots, as proved by the overwelming loss of all the Dover Pa school board members.

Dang, I would have loved taking this course. I would have failed, but I would have made the professor life miserable. So, you would probably support "evo fundies" going into churches, "teaching the controversy," and making people's lives miserable?
You should be glad scientists have more consideration and courtesy than that.
