You bet!
Thanks!
I was going to add that about the 'middle of the roadsters'! Certainly true around the UofA, but certainly more pinkos. It seems like every other day is some sort of 'raising awareness' or 'give more of our $ to the UN' week.... Once I'm away from campus, I have met many good people in AB. Periodically I see a car with a Bush/Cheney sticker on it.
A friend of mine from school spent a few months in Toronto, he said that the vast majority of the people he worked with out there were conservative. I can't imagine the cost of living outside of AB. With GST + provincial sales tax. That alone has to attract lots of business to AB and away from elsewhere.
Anyone like Clinton is scary. He could slip in a cow pie and come out smelling like roses with this media.
No problem! If any/all of you ever want to FReep my office, you're all invited!
Same with Bush. He could have nominated Hillary to the Supreme court and the media would have been all over him for some stupid reason or another. I think if Harper is elected, there should be some legislation requiring all Layton supporters to move to Cuba to live and work there for a year or so. Haven't been hearing too much about him though....
LOL! Its funny how so many students get up in arms about what the govt does with respect to tuition, yet they never seem to question where any of their tax dollars are going. Everytime I ask something like that to some NDP wack job, it is like I am telling them I would like to sleep with their sister.
For example:
Them: "Ohh.... (long sigh) Don't you understand, its just sooooo hard for anyone to go to school anymore. (huffff...) Its not good for society if people aren't going to college to better themselves (snivvle). Its just too expensive with tuition and the cost of living and books.... and the poor people are at a huge disadvantage because they can't afford it, in addition to everyone else"
Me: Do you ever stop and think about the fact that the cost of living is so high because of rediculously high taxation driving up the COST OF EVERYTHING?!?! And the fact that socialist policies CREATE huge economic inequalities? Besides, where does all that money go, city streets aren't even plowed in the winter and you pay close to 40% in gas taxes?
Them: Are you kidding?!! We need to raise taxes to pay for school! The reason things are expensive is because of big corporations gouging the people. All that other money goes for healthcare! Are you not listening to what people are saying, socialists CARE about the people, that is what their policies are DESIGNED to do!!!
Me: (ugh) Riiiighhht. (sigh)
Them: Now, its time to get REALLY serious about public transportation. The LRT needs to be extended so that the poor can get to college.
Me: Umm...To install a single mile of underground LRT track costs $200 billi.....Oh forget it.
Money management has never been a strong point for the left. It is pretty simple to figure out that when 40% of economic activity is government driven, it takes an ever increasing national debt just to keep the momentum going in the economy. And that's when interest rates are single digit. Wait until inflation moves rates to double digits again. (Inflation caused by governments printing money to finance their social programs)
I've met him too. He's a great guy. Actually he's got a fabulous sense of humor and real quick wit. He's a really really principled man and sometimes that may come off as "boring". I don't want a star running the country. I want an honest, smart, business friendly savvy guy and that's what he is. He's an economist!! I just loved the time I spent with him.
Your right on all counts. We do get taxed to the hilt and I'm sick of it. Alberta PROVES that high taxes DON'T WORK. They are swimming in surplus funds. No matter the name, Liberal or NDP (Labour Party) they are tax and spend Liberals. They are like your HARD CORE Left leaning Democrats.
The biggest problem I see with THIS election is the CBC Media mostly based in Toronto and Ottawa. It's been the same old HACKS for years. I don't even watch Canadian TV. I watch FOX and before we had FOX I watched CNN. I also drive around with stickers like: I belong to the Presidential Prayer Team!! Adopt a Marine Today!! I have adopted Four marines to pray for each day. Getting the updates from the families is just so neat. Every one of my Marines came home safely so now I must adopt a new crop.
HA!! I wonder how all those laid off GM plant workers are going to vote this time????
There has been an entire generation of brain washed youth raised on liberalism hasn't there? The institutions of "higher learning" ( now there's an oxymoron for ya) have indoctrinated the whole bunch. God help us.
LOL! Its pretty funny how imbedded liberalism is in young minds, well, to a point. (I shouldn't boast too loudly, I'll be honest and admit I suffered from a case of that BS for a while. Though, listening to my officemates cured it!)I wonder if college level economics is a required course, if so, what are the prof's credentials?
I'm an engineering grad student, i.e. research. It astounds me how so many others in my dept, who are excellent researchers, will buy anything that the MSM spews their way. I recently had an officemate trying to convince me that the sole function of Kyoto was to reduce CO2 emissions and that there was no other agenda (i.e. strengthening UN as a governing body and wealth redistribution) attached to it, and was very hysterical about the whole man-made global warming phenomenon. It is easy to use science to sway people, when you approach it from a standpoint of 'here is the conclusion I WANT, how do I support it'. Amazing!
I have read before that in the US, university student bodies as a whole have become more conservative. I'm not sure the #'s involved in the College Republicans, but I imagine that they crush the 'College Dims'!
Also, It isn't fair for Americans to point fingers at Canadians for being so left. You got tens-of-thousands of ours in the 60's and 70's.
Can you send me a link to the adopt-a-soldier program, if you have one?
It's on my home computer but I believe it is: www.presidentialprayerteam.org . If not, I will freep it to you when I get home. It is a Texas based organization.
Thanks for the link! Nice to hear of Canadians keeping soldiers in their prayers.
You've not had your car keyed?
NDP.
I'm glad you found FR.
Welcome. :-D
Thank you! I'm glad as well. Learned TONS and met some great people on FR .
Layton today saying any party in power that expects NDP support will have to have a plan to help the reeling auto industry.
Translation ~ spend taxpayers money to prop up the CAW.
Meanwhile ~ "The new Toyota plant will bring at least 1,300 new high-value, well-paying (non-union)jobs to Woodstock --and in time, more jobs for Ontario through spin-off auto parts and supplier industries".
The rally was scheduled for 2:30.
I got there early but the young campaign workers were already lined up to greet Steven.
It is always good to see so many young people supporting the conservative cause.
Steven arrives and takes the time to speak with each of his greeters.
I moved over to the stairs to get a shot of him coming up.
He was looking up but by the time I got my shot he had lowered his head
As I was frantically turning the film forward,he looked towards me and held this pose for my shot.
I was elated and after he passed I turned to a little old lady next me and excitedly said, 'He gave me thumbs up picture'.
She smiled knowingly, touched my arm and said, 'Yes, dear', while nodding her head. LOL
He took the stage flanked by area Conservative candidates.
The Sikh fellow on stage is my local candidate Ajmer Mandur
Mr. Harper gave a good speech. He was warm, humourous and articulate.
He got in some good zingers on the Liberals but emphasized the positive aspects of the party's platform.
His GST promise was well received.
I like the fact that it helps everyone yet those on low incomes get a larger proportional benefit.
For me, half my gross income is spent on supplies and maintenance to keep my business going.
Being the frugal guy I am, I'm looking forward to have an extra buck in my pocket for every 100 spent.
Some of the biggest applause (and certainly from me)
was when he spoke of our military and upgrading them so they could fufill our responsibility in the world
and when he forcefully promised that Senators would be elected.
All in all, a great rally and well attended for 2:30 on a work day.
As the rally ended he made his way through the crowd and I was able to shake his hand and told him to 'give 'em hell'
It was motivating start to the campaign.
I had to burn off some film so I asked Sam what he thought of Liberals...
The suburbs used to hate to be robbed, but the influx of immigrants and the migration from 416 to 905 has changed that dramatically. There is no real "center" in Ontario; you have the hinterlands which are almost as right-wing as Alberta, then you have the very liberal urban core areas, especially Toronto which is one of the most liberal cities in North America.
