As President Bush launched a new effort Wednesday to gain public support for the Iraq war, a new poll found most Americans do not believe he has a plan that will achieve victory.
Just 35 percent wanted to set a specific timetable for their exit, as some critics of the war have suggested.
Among poll respondents, 55 percent said they did not believe Bush has a plan that will achieve victory for the United States in Iraq; 41 percent thought he did.
Asked about Bush's handling of the Iraq war, 54 percent said it was poor, while 44 percent thought he was doing a good job.
Asked if the war will make the United States safer from terrorism in the long run, 48 percent said yes and 43 percent no, within the poll's sampling error.

Who is this guy "Most"?
Notice the following in CNN's article:
"The poll conducted Wednesday does not directly reflect how Americans are reacting to Bush's speech, because only 10 percent of the 606 adult Americans polled had seen it live and two-thirds had not even heard or read news coverage about it."
And if there is a slight majority who have doubts, its because the media has worked very hard to do that. The fact that the numbers are so close means that their attacks, while having some success, aren't as effective as they wish.
Man they can spit out those polls.
Polls by the crooked leftist media are just propaganda tools. Just the news they wish they could report.
Poll: Most doubt CNN's credibility
I think Most is a flaming lieburral.
didn't everybody just notice the big black X that flashed on the screen?
With President Bush as commander-in-chief what the commanders' report from the field is what matters most.
A much more accurate poll, TV viewer ratings, shows that a vast majority of the American public don't watch CNN, let alone believe their polls.
You are right... there it is!
***Poll: Most doubt CNN's credibility***
Especially after CNN had Murtha rebut the President's speech IMMEDIATELY after the re-play at 8 p.m. last evening.
For the past several years, I have started going to the web for my news. I might here something on "legecy" media, but I always go to the internet so I can get a wider range of views of the story. In the last couple weeks I can't get anything but the same garbage from all the typical portals I have used like google or msnbc. I think the liberals are trying to splatter their message everywhere so you can't find the real facts. In other words, if you can't beat them buy them out. It has made me begin to wonder if I am the only one who can see the obvious. Do "most" people think we will be safe by wishing it so? I would sleep easier if I knew my neighbors weren't the spineless slugs the media claims them to be. Man, I'm tired
Get some rest. Being a pajamahadeen is hard work!
Welcome to FreeRepublic.
Maybe it's just another Alan Smithee that CNN made up.
I Agree about not trusting CNN. They have not given us any reason to trust them along with the other MSM.
My journalism teacher always told me that in all polls negative, add 10% to the positive side and that will more accurately reflect the poll.
He was the only Conservative professor I ever met. His favorite line? "Krugman is a Marxist hack."
I thought an even MORE accurate poll was one conducted in early November, 2004
