Members of the 39th Infantry Brigade of the Arkansas National Guard are re-enlisting at a rate that has surprised officers.
The unit had 530 soldiers eligible for discharge, and 499 had re-enlisted as of Nov. 1. The retention rate of 94 percent is higher than the 90 percent for the Arkansas National Guard as a whole.
The 39th was mobilized for 18 months, a year of which was spent in Iraq. Members of the unit also were deployed to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
The Arkansas Army National Guard has a goal of having 8150 soldiers and needs to recruit 300 more.

There is a better article in Arkansas Democrat Gazette but it requires membership to view the on-line article
Apparently these people have had the benefit of being there, under the gun, workking with the Iraqis and they know something the libs and MSM do not want to admit or give the time of day.
Bless them, all. I would call this a suprise only to the left. The guardsmen know they're needed and doing vital work. They have a lot more incentive to enlist than during "normal" times when they just do drill one weekend a month. Good for them.
Surprising only to the left.
Quagmire
Of course, the lefties disdain places like Arkansas anyway.
Once again, the people who are NOT in the military, who therefore know only what they see on TV, are a bit reluctant to sign up (new recruits). But those who are IN the military are re-upping at high rates, because they GET IT.
We need to thank these people every chance we get.
Being an Arkansan and having observed members of the 39th for years, I am not surprised at this one little bit.
Just got off the phone with a friend in Arkansas and he was telling me this. Hopefully I'll be able to announce on FR shortly a new program for returning Iraq/Afganistan vets, where they can request/receive free guided fishing/hunting trips in Arkansas and other states.
Deut, check your messages, good news about the White River, there's a news conference going on about now in Arkansas about the White River fishery.
Thank you Arkansas 39th Infantry Brigade, we appreciate your service. Go Razorbacks.
If these fine soldiers really felt that way, they would not have reenlisted. Now tell me why I should believe what I see and hear in these so-called documentaries?

Yeah I have 2 episodes I got when I was in Iraq. The first 2 they kinda sucked. I heard the rest are better. But no one I know even gets discovery times channel. How many episodes did you see? And there was one guy from the brigade that made a stink about his contract being for only a year which was midway thru his tour....he re enlisted. One rising star in country music Luke Stricklin is from the brigade too.
