In the Dallas area, as in the nation, Catholics were deeply divided about Tuesday's Vatican ruling that men with "deep-seated" homosexual tendencies should not be allowed to become priests.
For Bob Rowland, a conservative Catholic, the first major policy statement under Pope Benedict XVI was long overdue.
"The success of the new directive rests on the rapid application of decisive punishment for disobedience," said Mr. Rowland, a technical writer and retired Air Force officer in Irving.
But for Victor Kralisz, president of Dignity Dallas, a group of about 70 openly gay Catholics, the document is "a very sad business that undermines the good work and dedicated lives of a huge number of gay priests in this country and around the world."
Some other local Catholics, including those belonging to groups that have protested the church's handling of child sex abuse by priests, also criticized the ruling.
Scandal's consequences The document has been under preparation for years, but it was released as the church continues to struggle with the fallout from the sex-abuse scandal, which some blame in part on a large number of gay men in the Catholic clergy.
That's unfair, said Dan Feeney of Southlake, a member of Voice of the Faithful, a group of Catholics who have been critical of the church's handling of the scandal.

"We have been following its norms already," he said.
The Dallas Diocese's director of vocations, the Rev. Josef Vollmer-Konig, said he does not ask point blank about a seminary candidate's sexual orientation, and he does not expect to have to do so.
Candidates go through extensive psychological testing in which issues about sexuality are likely to surface, he said.

Exactly. The only ones polarized are those who don't believe anyway. They SHOULD be ignored. Let them go form their own church.
The only division here is with those who have chosen to divide themselves from the Roman Cathlic Church and its teachings.
Wouldn't be useful if we had it. Most of those violated were young men.

Their disapproval is predictable and inconsequential.
"There's no [research] correlation between homosexuality and pedophilia," he said. "To turn around and focus on chaste and celibate men who want to be members of the clergy is, I think, misleading."
Not so fast Feeney; a member of Voice of The Hidden Agenda, we have hard evidence that the vast majority of the abuse cases, 82%, involved ephebophilia. Homosexual acts between adult males and post pubescent males.

'But Monsignor Michael Duca, rector of Holy Trinity Seminary, was less sure that admission procedures would not have to change.
"I think what this document is telling us is that we're going to have, with all our candidates, an open and honest discussion about sexuality," he said. "Whether there will be a direct question about orientation, I can't tell you that."

I see a larger political problem on the horizon. There was an endless chorus about the Church's "pedophilia" problem, but nary a mainstream word about the fact that it was a HOMOSEXUAL pedophilia problem. Even Jay Leno made a joke about a true story about how a Polish priest visiting America got in trouble for having sex with a GIRL. But, here's where this whole thing will (hopefully) cause problems: how are the phony Catholics like Kerry, Kennedy et al. going to continue to pretend to be going to this allegedly "homophobic" Church while continuing to appease their queer base? They still see the political value of pretending to be Catholic, although they get fewer and fewer Catholic votes every cycle, but they can't lose the NAMBLA votes, eitheer.
I hope their "dilemna of hipocrisy" is fatal.

Those who do not follow the Church and the Pope are not Catholics. They may call themselves so, but it may be time for them to find another religion.
At last! A psychologist who admits the abuse was mainly a homosexual problem! No weasle words, just a straight-forward admission.
If 4% of priests molested, and homosexuals represent 25% of the priestly population, that means 1 out of 8 homosexual priests is a molester.
