Tonight [November 29], Comedy Central will air a special by Denis Leary, Merry F#%$in Christmas (it first aired two nights ago and is scheduled to air again on Dec. 17). The show consists of several skits, a cartoon and musical performances.
There is a skit about lesbian nuns, and a song by Our Lady of Perpetual Suffering Church Choir about a hooker. But by far the most offensive part of the show is the monologue by Denis Leary on the origins of Christmas. Here is part of what he says:
Merry Christmas. Tonight we celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus, whose mom, Mary, just happens to be a virgineven after she apparently gave birth to Jesus. At least that is what the Catholic Church would have you believe.
Tom Cruise is taking a lot of s--- for belonging to a religion, Scientology, that believes aliens came to this planet 75 million years ago. That is nothing. I was raised Catholic. We believe Mary was a virgin and Jesus ended up walking on water, creating a bottomless jug of wine and rising from the dead. Oh, yeah, and Tom Cruise is crazy.
Listen, Christmas is built on a line of bulls---. Do I believe there was a baby Jesus? You bet your ass I do. But I believe that nine months before he was born someone sure as s--- banged the hell out of his mom.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:
I am asking Catholic League members, and friends of the Catholic League, to e-mail Doug Herzog, the president of Comedy Central, requesting that he nix the Dec. 17th showing of this vile special, and any future showings that might be planned. He can be contacted at Doug.Herzog@comedycentral.com.
Hate speech dressed in humorous garb is still hate speech. Leary is obviously bedeviled by some disorder, but nothing excuses this crap.
I read this last night and debated running it off for my husband to read. I couldn't and he would have been offended and hurt.
I think everyone needs to pray for Dennis. Mocking is one thing, but the great unforgivable sin is another.
Please, pray for this man. He is absolutely lost if we don't.
We may not like him particularly, but Charity never said you have to like, just act as if, and this soul belongs to Christ who made him..
Yes, excellent point...turn the channel is about the same as "close your eyes and hope that it goes away".
We gotta be more proactive than flippin' a switch....call the ba$tards out.
What would have happened if we "turned the channel" on Dan Rather(gate). We did turn the channel eventually, but not before their arses got kicked.
OK, but not before we do a little FReeping.....just to be on the safe side.
Defending one's religion from sacrilege and blasphemy (guess you don't understand that one's religion is representative of something sacred; one's most cherished beliefs and rules by which one lives his/her life) cannot be trvialized by calling it 'politically correct'. That's utter, childish nonsense.
Furthermore, if you find such blasphemous ranting and sacrilege to be "fun", you have a serious problem.
So when Jesus says the world will hate you, and then it hates us, we're supposed to - what? Write letters? Make petitions? To accomplish what? To get them to - what - "respect" the Christian revelation more, aside from the question of their personal conversion?
Is it not clear from every page of the NT that the person who is unconverted is darkened in mind and heart, and cannot see the truth? This being Christianity 101, we are supposed to "not like it" when a pagan mind thinks like a pagan mind?
You honestly think Jesus gives a hoot that pagans, though they REMAIN UNCONVERTED, start giving Him more "respect"?
This whole discussion is foreign to the New Testament. It betrays an unbiblical mindset among the believers. It's silly.

Exactly. Comedy Central is a part of our "package". I'd like to see a new system, whereby we could choose each channel individually. Then we'd really have an idea of what the public wants in its programming, and we'd have more influence on production and content.
Your problem is the word "we". It indicates a collectivist assumption. Abandoning that assumption will make you a conservative and give you persoanl peace.
Here is how it works: filthy comedians get to decide what kind of culture they EMIT. You get to decide what kind of culture you CONSUME. Between the two of you, there is no common culture. You and Leary are not a "we".
The essence of conservatism is the assertion that the 'we" be voluntary as much as possible. That means you can't control his foul mouth, and he can't control your television's off switch.
Simple and elegant.
Its really the latest destination for the aging MTV generation of a decade or so ago.
Their political cornerstone is The Daily Show with Jon Stewrant. I like humor alot, but this jerk is BARELY adding comedy to his far-left rantings (complete with ranting live audience).
He made the switch a couple of years ago in order to win some Emmys....now he's locked in...kinda like "da mob": Tough to leave your Masters without taking a dirt nap.
However, Commie Central does control you in a respect via the Cable/Satellite company. You can't choose (yet) to take Commie Central out of a multi-channel "package" deal.
I'll feel much better when control of my channels are fully returned to me.
Bub-bye Commie Central
All my channels are belong to me.
It actually isn't a flawed argument. Analogies of sewage aside, he's selling a product and if you don't care for the product ignore it.
Sounds funny, I'll be sure to watch.
I'm Catholic but I think Donahue is a twit.
Thanks for the website. But this is one issue that was never even disputed in my church.

He's definitely on the far Left. I think he has talent, but it's badly misused.
I was going for Cassius, but if Dante were alive today...
Who is Denis Leary?
Amem brother...........DL is a funny comedian. We just watched the Ref again this weekend with Kevin Spacey and laughed our assess off.
Yeah.........if you can't take a joke and don't like watching Carment Electra's boobs then turn it off.
