Columbus - Citing family troubles and the growing demands of being a big-city mayor, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman plans to announce he's dropping out of the race for governor.
Campaign advisor Greg Haas said Coleman plans to make the official announcement at a 3 p.m. news conference today.
"The mayor based his decision on the committment he has to his family and the demands of the job of being mayor," Haas said.

Others considering entering the race are state Sen. Eric Fingerhut of Shaker Heights and former trash-TV talk show host Jerry Springer.

But questions about his ability to survive the strains of a statewide run began percolating soon after, many of them inspired by an outburst during an on-air interview with conservative talk-radio host Glenn Beck.
The mayor reacted strongly when Beck sought his views on a sexual assault scandal involving a developmentally disabled high school student. After Coleman explained that he has no authority over the local schools, Beck asked his views on the incident "as a man and a father."
Coleman fired back: "Don't question my manhood. Don't you ever question my manhood." (snip)
Coleman shunned some campaign duties, preferring to focus on the city's budget, labor troubles at the Central Ohio Transit Authority and other more mundane municipal concerns.
Last month, suburban Columbus police arrested his wife, Frankie, for drunken driving. Her case is pending.

Not Jerry Springer! What a joke.
Looks like it's gonna be Blackwell vs. Strickland...
Springer had to leave his position as Mayor of Cincinnati because he was caught patronizing the whorehouses across the river in Kentucky. He was easy to catch. He paid the girls by check.
I think Mad TV got this pic right...
Representative Eric Fingerhut (D-Ohio)
Elected to represent his Cleveland district in 1992 with 53 percent of the vote, Fingerhut served just one term in the House before he was defeated in 1994. He co-chaired the freshman class's Democratic Task Force on Reform.
Fingerhut served on the Banking, Finance, and Urban Affairs, Foreign Affairs, and Science, Space, and Technology Committees. For his 1992 campaign, he raised $617,946, a third of which came from PACs. More than half of his PAC money came from labor unions. The next largest source of support were various pro-Israel lobbies, which contributed $72,950.
I'm sure they'll all celebrate with a round of drinks.
It's too bad Coleman had to drop out. Between him and Strickland he would have been the easier one to defeat, and in spite of all his gaffes he still had a semi-decent chance of being able to get the nomination.
Sounds like a good name for a blog.
He (Fingerhut) also lost by 18 points (or so) in his 2004 Senate run against George "crybaby" Voinovich.
Eric Fingerhut is jewish....did a search and found Eric Fingerhut columns for various National Jewish interest publications....same person? Some were heavily anti-Bush.
It could be the same guy, I am not sure.
Being an elected Democrat from notheast Ohio means being a moonbat.
And the check bounced, I was told.
