Bush not serious about immigration
msnbc ^ | 29 Nov. 05 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 11/29/2005 9:09:57 AM PST by Icelander

President Bush announced a new immigration program on Monday, and was immediately accused of playing politics. The president, his opponents said, isn't more concerned about immigration reform than he used to be. He's just weaker politically. And there's no quicker way to win back the affection of the disaffected Right than to snarl about illegal aliens. For once, the spin is right: Bush isn't serious about immigration;

I believe that it is absolutely imperative that people who get caught hiring illegals face stiff fines and even time in prison. Enforcement of the border can easily be ramped up with barriers at appropriate locations. The tougher problem is how to remove the illegals who are already here.

My question is how can we realistically expect government to be able to locate and remove the millions of illegals who are already here? Rounding up millions of people is a logistical nightmare. The only way I can see is to require the issuance of a national i.d. card. But that would only be a small beginning.

The way I see it, this problem cannot be solved quickly. It has taken years to develop and will take years to get a grip on.

It was pretty tame. All of the kids were out of town.

Hope that yours was better.

My essay for December, at the web site, is going to be on Tactical Tips for the prospective Conservative candidate in the coming 2006 Primaries, and it starts off with a discussion on how to handle the immigration issue. While it is still undergoing fine tuning and proof reading, my intention is to post it tomorrow.

You slavish devotion to Bush on this issue reveals more than you think. It is getting damned close to the time when citizens with pitchforks in DC will be the only thing to awaken the pols to their peril.

You are so correct. This "Two-Party Cartel" needs a dose of revolution. For what it's worth there has been for 8 yrs & will continue that this issue is #1 in my mind & no votes go to anyone that won't handle the issue of no amnesty.

It is very sad when your only option on the immigration issue is to punish the party in power!!!

The immigrants are matched up with the employer.

There are 5.5 billion people in the world that are poorer than Mexicans and many of whom would love to come here and work at any job for our minimum wage or even less.

Is there anything in your plan that will stop American employers who are paying their American employees $8 to $25 an hour from firing all their Americans and replacing them with guests at minimum wage?

We don't need a wall. We need proper surveillance, grab then, print them, and send them straight back in a Mexican taxi all within minutes of them being caught. Let their own government deal with them for being an embarrassment and inconvenience.

It really doesn't take much to protect the border, it just takes the WILL to do it. Once these illegals get deep into the country, they get harder and more costly to remove.

That's a reasonably well-thought-out plan, although the INS would require some serious backup from the state authorities in enforcing the return requirements. The first project we could put the immigrants to work on is building the wall on our Southern border. The bigger problem, though, is with the illegals that are already here - how do we document the undocumented? And then, how do we get our Congress to do anything about it when most just want to hide and/or change the subject (Tom Tancredo, most notably, excepted)?

Fine Art, but not mine. Some great freeper made this and if you click on it you go to his website. I send this to GOP when they ask for more money.

Sounds like a good idea. Personally, I never give money to the Party, only to individual candidates who have proven worthy of support. But I have responded to solicitations from Washington with comments on our lack of a patriotic immigration policy.

My position on immigration has been posted here many times, of course: Immigration & The American Future.

Letter writing is fine. More effective would be to reprint that Peso dollar that pops on these border threads. It is titled "gringa de Mexico" and has a handsome picture of el President Jorge Arbusto on the side. Mail this postage due) every time the GOP sends a solicitation letter for $$$

Bush has clearly stated that he opposes amnesty many times.

Politicians say many things. Words mean different things to different people. Words have always meant less than actions. The President's actions show that he does not identify with the interests and continuity of mainstream Americans, their values and their society. One may wish that it were otherwise--how truly many of us wish that it were otherwise. But the man's actions tell us where the truth lies.

I guess all the states that declared a 'state of emergency' can now stand down. The problems are over. Katrina is still a bigger story.

Bush said nothing will work unless we have amnesty.

***You are a liar...Bush has clearly stated that he opposes amnesty many times.***

Now, now, don't say "liar".
Yes, Dubya 'said' he opposes amnesty - but does he really. Let's see:

Amnesty

And my personal favorite

So parse Dubya's 'guest worker program' how you will, but by the English Language it boils down to him wanting to grant amnesty to 11-14 Million criminal illegal invaders (or is it illegal criminal invaders?).

There are many who will self deport if they can't work or get free schooling and medication.
