BENNINGTON, Vermont (AP) -- A high school teacher is facing questions from administrators after giving a vocabulary quiz that included digs at President Bush and the extreme right. Bret Chenkin, a social studies and English teacher at Mount Anthony Union High School, said he gave the quiz to his students several months ago. The quiz asked students to pick the proper words to complete sentences. One example: "I wish Bush would be (coherent, eschewed) for once during a speech, but there are theories that his everyday diction charms the below-average mind, hence insuring him Republican votes." "Coherent" is the right answer. Principal Sue Maguire said she hoped to speak to whomever complained about the quiz and any students who might be concerned. She said she also would talk with Chenkin. School Superintendent Wesley Knapp said he was taking the situation seriously. "It's absolutely unacceptable," Knapp said. "They (teachers) don't have a license to hold forth on a particular standpoint." Chenkin, 36, a teacher for seven years, said he isn't shy about sharing his liberal views with students as a way of prompting debate, but said the quizzes are being taken out of context. "The kids know it's hyperbolic, so-to-speak," he said. "They know it's tongue in cheek." But he said he would change his teaching methods if some are concerned. "I'll put in both sides," he said. "Especially if it's going to cause a lot of grief." The school is in Bennington, a community of about 16,500 in the southwest corner of the state.

Imagine that.
Just check CNN.com for the answers.
Now That woman is worse than a "moose-limb".
Says the guy who works as a publik skool teacher.
Yeah, sure...
Ok, that is more truthful.
Maybe they know which cheek, too...
Moron shouldn't put in either side -
In my years of education which included the liberal arts, I had a teacher that was conservative. Once.
He was an economics professor, but not from the econ department. He was an engineering economics professor that taught us how to calculate the NPV and amortized costs of building projects.
Since he understood the principles of economics, he had no choice but to be conservative.
Umm...I think you mean "ensuring"...
as an English teacher, this guy should spend his time learning English rather than trying to indoctrinate his students
And of course the CNN article is biased itself by referring to the "extreme right." Who is that? How are they defining extreme right? They probably mean Bush.
This teacher ought to get together with the CNN flunky who put the X over VP Cheney's face and start their own left wing hate network.
I wish Bush would be (coherent, eschewed) for once during a speech, but there are theories that his everyday diction charms the below-average mind, hence insuring him Republican votes."
Hey, dimbulb, it's only "insuring" when you go talk to an insurance agent and buy a policy. Otherwise, it's "ensuring".
This idiocy continues
Liberals have become so rabidly dogmatic that they've lost touch altogether, like when the MSM denies being partisan. They've truly lost the ability to distinguish right from wrong and truth from fantasy.
Wow geee Vermont? who'd a thunk it?
"he isn't shy about sharing his liberal views with students as a way of prompting debate"
Yeah, this older, educated person tearing down and ripping apart a student who doesn't have the same advantage makes me see red. If this student were a mature student and debating the teacher, there would be equal footing. As it stands, this liberal leftist dweeb gets to foist his ideas on the unsuspecting young. Sheesh! Where's the righteous anger?
not to pick nits on this one, but both ensuring and insuring are correct.
if this asswhipe has time to strategize on how to to indoctrinate our children, then things must be pretty well in control in that school district, in fact it should be a model to the nation. Or, could it be simply that he is incompetent to teach and should be given his walking papers asap? (Occum's razor)
I shocked I tell you- shocked! /sarcasm
Old news
and the guy quit I believe on Thanksgiving.
