NOLA "SNIPER" STORY IN DOUBT
Saturday, November 26, 2005 - FreeMarketNews.com
Were the horror-stories of snipers shooting at relief contractors, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, just one more example of propaganda to justify the police-state tactics employed by local authorities?
New evidence has been revealed that these tales of woe may have been as disingenuous as the reports of massive police defections during the looting in the aftermath of the storm. (Those reports have since been found to be a cover-up of payroll padding in the city's employment records.)
A story in the Los Angeles Times appears to debunk the "sniper threat" accounts, quoting several citizens who claim to have been shot by police officers. The initial story in the New Orleans Times-Picayune had it that police "had caught eight snipers on the Danziger Bridge, shooting at relief contractors." They then shot to death five or six of the purported marauders, in the ensuing gun-battle. Later stories revised the account, ending up with only two deaths and conflicting testimony as to who they were.
But the (L.A.) Times story found a teenager, recovering from critical wounds from the shooting, claiming he was shot for no reason, while another victim has been identified as a mentally-disabled man who was merely seeking food and relief after the flood. Neither of these were armed, say several of their family-members, while the recovering teen believes the final shot at him was delivered via an assault-rifle, and at point-blank range, despite the fact that he was carrying no weapon himself at the time. The investigation of the NOPD's performance throughout the crisis is ongoing. - ST
What about the Marine who grabbed a personal rifle and his MARPAT and headed down there? He had stories of providing "cover fire" against numerous "snipers" from his orbiting helo. He seemed convinced.
Well. Wouldn't you know.
How long will it take before they determine it sucked? Oh wait, its a DIM administration, that won't happen.
I know numerous meople who were down there early on. The media is in MAJOR "reverse spin" mode. They are actively trying to re-write what actually happened in New Orleans. "Oh no, those stories we printed early on, with the multiple eye-witnesses and such were just rumors".
According to my Corps of Engineers friends and my insurance friend, we did not hear the worst of it.
I've received emails and pics from people who agree.
One guy mentions "engaging" several targets with his AR. Not sure if it's truth or embelleshment, but there's a common thread to many of these stories.
Ok, this is the second thread on this...
People brought up this Marine stuff in the last one, I asked for substantiation and never got a response.
1) Who is the Marine?
2) What is the source for the story and can you point to any links to it?
3) When did he say it?
4) Was it a direct quote from said Marine?
Pretty clear a lot of people really don't read much history.
You read through history, around any major event, disasters, military attacks, in virtually EVERY SINGLE CIRCUMSTANCE there was an immense amount of completely false nonsense that was universally believed, often by quite reliable people.
The Day of Pearl Harbor there were numerous reports of Japanese Landings in Hawaii.
In the Days after Pearl Harbor there were numerous reports of Japanese landings on the West Coast.
To this day there's a collection of idiots that believe Hurricane Andrew killed thousands of people and there's been a massive government coverup.
"The massively corrupt New Orleans police department"
There's an understatement.
Here is my spin, that much of the post Katrina stuff reported was BS. The fact that the MSM and that includes Fox, reported breathlessly over and over about it, actually HAMPERED relief efforts by creating fear in the rescuers and causing a reallocation of resources. Therefore, the media was PART OF THE PROBLEM.
The story was posted here on FR, as well as several other news sites. Many had pictures of the guy and a DETAILED story of his adventures.
He gets a call from friends/family saying that they've got kin trapped in NOLA. He grabs his uniform and personal rifle and heads down there. Meets up with various LE, tools around NO looking for kin. Finds them, goes back for their dogs. Becomes a hero.
Let me search for this and I'll post as soon as I can find it.
"Here is my spin, that much of the post Katrina stuff reported was BS."
Don't get me wrong, I believe there was some media spin but I personally know people who were shot at, although not from that particular bridge. I do believe those mentioned in this article we either involved or responsible because after that, my Corps buddies had no more trouble.
There were National Guard troops engaged with sniper(s) at the Tulane Medical Center. Numerous businesses in town had dead bodies of executed local gang members in them. People did defacate in nicer stores and tried to destroy all they couldn't steal. Gunfire could be heard throught the nights. The Superdome was Hell on earth. I know a guy that was there for two days and did not close his eyes longer than it takes to blink for fear of his life.
I could go on and on from the first hand accounts I have heard and the pictures I have seen. The media is doing their best to back-track and make New Orleans out to be more safe and secure. It is neither.
I am from this area. I worked with the Corps of Engineers for 5 years. I used to go to New Orleans 4 or 5 times a year and I have lived on this river most of my life. They say Katrina destroyed New Orleans and that may be true. It destroyed the physical city. The truth is what killed New Orleans, though. It is that truth that is trying to be covered-up in articles like this one.
Jeez, that IS sad.
Do bombs count? ;-P
Hm. FreeMarketNews, huh? Is that a NewsMax for the moonbat wing of the Libertarian Party?
Well. Wouldn't you know.
You familiar with a couple of NOPD cops named Len Davis and Sammie Williams? Or NOPD Patrolman Antoinette Frank?
It'd be nice to think that most of the NOPD isn't like that. But some most certainly have been, and it's very reasonable to suspect that some still are.
----I was going to say I remember the thread here you were talking about and I was going to try and find it. You beat me to it.
