hinas hunger for energy sources promises certain benefits for developing Kazakhstans oil and gas infrastructure, and Russia and China see Kazakhstan as an important transit route for increasing oil and gas supplies.
Mesmerized by the huge hydrocarbon export opportunities offered by Chinas rapidly developing Xinjiang province, last year Kazakhstan began building the Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline to connect western China with oilfields in Aktobe region, western Kazakhstan. The daunting adventure, hailed as the project of the century in Astana, is now nearly complete.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev and the head of the Chinese National Petroleum Company (CNPC), Cheng Gen, exchanged congratulations on this occasion in Astana on 10 November.
Appearing before journalists after warm talks with the Kazakh president, the CNPC chief announced that Nazarbaev had expressed his satisfaction with CNPCs recent acquisition of shares in PetroKazakhstan.
Cheng Gen assured his listeners that the Atasu-Alashankou pipeline would be completed by 16 December, to coincide with Kazakhstans Independence Day. He also declared that the construction of the Atasu-Alashankou pipeline and CNPCs lucky purchase of PetroKazakhstan shares mark a new chapter of cooperation between CNPC and the Kazakh national oil and gas company KazMunayGaz, Ekspress-K reported on 11 November.

KAZAKHSTAN
KOREAN BUSINESSMAN CLAIMS TO HAVE BRIBED NAZARBAEV. South Korean
businessman Choi Soon-young, former chairman of the Shindongah group
and Korean Life Insurance Company, admitted giving $10 million in
bribes to President Nursultan Nazarbaev of Kazakhstan. Choi
testified that he authorized the payment to Nazarbaev in 1996 and
that it was intended to help Shindongah's diamond processing and
other business ventures in Kazakhstan. According to the AP (6
November 2001), Choi testified before a Seoul appeals court on 26
October and said that he instructed his subordinate, Kim Jong-eun,
to deliver the money to Nazarbaev. Kim has denied any role in the
scheme and claims that Choi delivered the money himself. Lev
Tarakov, head of Nazarbaev's press service, said he was unaware of
the accusations and refused to comment.

Nothing surprising. All "presidents" of former soviet republics (now "independent" "xxxx..stans") like Nazarbaev and others, are former commies therefore, they are criminals, without exception...
Mr.Putin is member of their company too. He is rich man, under 6 criminal cases... which all suspended on a time of his presidency
Please, read my comment about Mr.Adamov on http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1529205/posts
Putin and Ivanov are both KGB. Ivanov is also well liked by the KPRF (Communists) in russia.
