Running Scared (Liberal Boston Globe rantings, U.S. Soldiers now a Shame!)
Boston Globe ^ | 11/28/05 | James Carroll

Posted on 11/28/2005 5:04:38 AM PST by teddyballgame

The United States is now undergoing a great reckoning. With collapsing confidence in the government, obsessive debate about the war, rising contempt for the president, shame in relation to the plight of our young soldiers, acrimony at holiday tables -- ''I told you so" versus ''What would you have us do?" -- the nation confronts the all-too-human fact that our frightened responses to Al Qaeda, at home and abroad, have done us far more damage than the nihilist terrorists ever could have. Our communal dread, instead of sharpening our responses, made them reckless.

But the damage has not only been to us. It is as if the frightened newsboy leapt away from an innocuous shadow into the path of an onrushing truck, causing a terrible accident. In America's case, it was not a truck, but a bus loaded with children.

At one moment, the newsboy is darting among shapes in the dark, and the next he is staggering in the road among the groaning victims of actual carnage he has caused. Add to that horror the facts that more buses loaded with children are rushing down the road toward the accident scene, soon to crash, and that there is no rescue squad to call, no ''security force."

Called self projection.Cowering lefties may have been frightened but the rest of us got righteously angry and are now taking the fight to the enemy.

Libs will never understand this as courage and victory are no longer words in their vocabulary.

The weak-minded, weak-kneed and limp-wristed set would prefer to live in a Disney cartoon world.

The real world is a gory place!

These MSM nitwits have taken their own push polls on Iraq and used them as the basis for such nonsense as this chicken little piece. Most Americans still understand what a loss in Iraq would mean to their own personal safety.

James Carroll is another in a long list of pathological liars and left-wing propagandists (but I repeat myself) posing as journalists. The following is another of Carroll's recent anti-Bush, anti-truth diatribes:

LOL...I actually thought this was a Scrappleface or Onion parody piece. The writer must have secured his spot on the Boston Glob staff by showing them his entries in the Horrible Hemmingway Contest.
Actually, this headline might apply more aptly to the Glob's looking at their subscriber figures for 2005. Writing such as this won't help.

Carroll is a failed priest whose memoir, American Requiem, recounts his hatred for his father, an Air Force general in the Vietnam era. Whenever I read his stuff, I am reminded of how debilitating adolescent rebellion can be.

Carroll is a leftist, pacifist, ex-priest.

OK, now I remember him. He won a "Liberal Loser" award here on FR a while back.

Hey John! Didn't you get the memo? Women, children and girly men to the back. Let the real men and women take care of this for you.

Apparently, Chicken Little did write it. I read it (way too early to see such a dismal thing) but we were waiting for a School Bus so it seemed appropriate. Thankfully, these Texas school buses (unlike those Boston Buses) have not only headlights & brakes but competent drivers who obey traffic laws & do not speed down dark streets. They're probably even issued Night Vision Goggles, practice evasive driving maneuvers so they can avoid colliding with fleeing newsboys. And in the event of an accident, we'd offer a bandaid & not a rolled up newspaper.A rolled up newspaper might be helpful if the "accident" is dog related...I suggest the author hang onto his papers because he's stepping in a lot of stuff.

I did puzzle over what childhood trauma haunts the writer's psyche, given he uses & painfully stretches his personal experiences as a newsboy into some type of bizarre metaphor for America. Then again he says at the beginning he was running from his imagination so his closing sentence ironically describes not "America" but just his sad overly self-obsessed liberal self: Now the American boy knows something new, that the thing to be afraid of is himself

Couldn't agree with him more...he is something to be scared of...he now wears an "unbiased" lapel pin & writes for a Newspaper. Of course I'm scared of roaches, too. But, I've found they always run from the Light & seeing them stomped with a big Texas boot is very satisfying if I don't have to clean up the mess. (Roaches creep into even the cleanest of homes...usually when there's a little rain...But Raid & a visit from Orkin every couple of years has really been doing a great job keeping their numbers down. Wonder if "Chicken Little" would understand that metaphor...)

The liberal, leftist backstabbing of our soldiers is out in plain view now. This is good because it tells us that the liberal establishment feels that its very existence is threatened. Encourage the leftist wack jobs to express their real feelings and we will succeed in driving them over the brink. Then we capture the center and win all elections in the forseeable future.

Well, none of that happened at our dinner table. But probably did at this guy's house. No doubt many liberals were emboldened to go home and spew hate America at their family members.

Carroll is a clown, repenting all his life for being the son of a Lt. Gen. Everything the man says stems from his neurotic, adolescent need to work out his "issues" with Daddy.
