Running Scared (Liberal Boston Globe rantings, U.S. Soldiers now a Shame!)

The United States is now undergoing a great reckoning. With collapsing confidence in the government, obsessive debate about the war, rising contempt for the president, shame in relation to the plight of our young soldiers, acrimony at holiday tables -- ''I told you so" versus ''What would you have us do?" -- the nation confronts the all-too-human fact that our frightened responses to Al Qaeda, at home and abroad, have done us far more damage than the nihilist terrorists ever could have. Our communal dread, instead of sharpening our responses, made them reckless.
But the damage has not only been to us. It is as if the frightened newsboy leapt away from an innocuous shadow into the path of an onrushing truck, causing a terrible accident. In America's case, it was not a truck, but a bus loaded with children.
At one moment, the newsboy is darting among shapes in the dark, and the next he is staggering in the road among the groaning victims of actual carnage he has caused. Add to that horror the facts that more buses loaded with children are rushing down the road toward the accident scene, soon to crash, and that there is no rescue squad to call, no ''security force."

Wow! This writer can cram a lot of gloom and doom into a little space. Sounds like Chicken Little wrote it.

The liberal press is undergoing a great reckoning. Cancelled subsriptions, decling readership, decreased credibility, increasing skepticism, rising terminations because of lack of integrity...

it is a defacto declaration of the second coming of the summer of 1969.

Actually if you read the polls instead of spinning them the contempt is for Government over all, NOT just Bush. That is why the "back to the Great Society" spin being spewed by Leftist losers like this columnist after Katerina suddenly disappeared in Sept. They all discovered that their delusions of a "great awakening" among us peon voters was NOT happening.

The liberal press dream is for our soldiers to eventually be viewed like they were when they came home from Vietnam.

-- the nation confronts the all-too-human fact that our frightened responses to Al Qaeda, at home and abroad, have done us far more damage than the nihilist terrorists ever could have. No, the media confronts the fact that Americans don't want Mrs. Clinton for our first female President and therefore must send up one trial balloon after another to see what will turn the SHeeple against Conservative Christians.

Carroll is a leftist, pacifist, ex-priest.
Calling anything he writes 'drivel" is being charitable.

our frightened responses to Al Qaeda, at home and abroad, have done us far more damage than the nihilist terrorists ever could have. Here the writer must obviously be referring to the Clinton years.
To: teddyballgame
the writer is, as our most of the leftists i know, a spineless coward.

the contempt is for Government over all, NOT just Bush.Indeed, show me a poll where the approval rating of congress is higher than that of the President and I've got a bridge to sell you.
This however, does not speak well of the majority - but they earned it, excessive spending, drug welfare giveaways, open borders...

Maybe some of these bums will finally have to go and make a living like the rest of us instead of being paid for running their mouths about things they have no real knowledge of. I often wonder what is the most contemptible mouth running professions.
America has to many Monday Morning Quarterbacks making a living off of other peoples sweat and blood.
What real purpose does lawyers, reporters and politicians have in life other than to make the rest of us miserable. You never here anything good coming from any of their lips. They all should be put out to pasture and made to work for a living. I suspect if any real work were to be involved they would have to go on welfare rolls.

Ah yes, the paper that got so excited about a porno site, they reported that the porno was actually Abu Grab photos. What an amazing paper. And then their retraction was hidden through some media gimmick. What class.
I think I'll dissect part of this, but no clamps on the bleeding.
"The United States is now undergoing a great reckoning."
Yeah, how much damage the left has done to America, and how cowardly some people get when we suffer comparatively low losses.
"With collapsing confidence in the government, ..."
What nut ever would have confidence in any manmade government?
"..obsessive debate about the war..."
Yes, by nutbars like Pelosi, Cynthia McKinney [who begged for the check that Rudy Guilianni turned down], and the ever-faithful koolaid-drinking] Waxman who was unable to see a single thing wrong with Chinagate. Yeah, they were willing to vote the way they talk. The others were a bunch of phonies.
"...rising contempt for the president..."
And even more contempt for demon-cats.
"...shame in relation to the plight of our young soldiers, acrimony at holiday tables -- ''I told you so" versus..."
I think they also gloated about those phony porno pics they mistakenly thought were from Abu Grab.
"''What would you have us do?" -- the nation confronts the all-too-human fact that our frightened responses to Al Qaeda, at home and abroad, have done us far more damage than the nihilist terrorists ever could have."
Hm... opposition to invading terror states was the fearful, timid, French-like response. Hm, maybe we should grovel like the French? Oh don't mention France right now? The Paris riots aren't to be spoken of? Oh.
"...Our communal dread..."
Communal dread? Are we talking about a six seater outhouse? That's what I would dread. I just love it when a leftist refers to something as 'communal'. His commun-ism is showing, kinda like a lady's slip.
"...instead of sharpening our responses, made them reckless..."
The only thing reckless Bush ever did in the Middle East was try to get the UN to side with him [with information they passed to our enemies] and let Condi make those reckless deals in Israel.
"...But the damage has not only been to us. It is as if the frightened newsboy leapt away from an innocuous shadow into the path of an onrushing truck, causing a terrible accident. In America's case, it was not a truck, but a bus loaded with children..."
Bush kills children all the time. He does it for fun. Sometimes with arsenic. /sarcasm.
"...At one moment, the newsboy is darting among shapes in the dark, and the next he is staggering in the road among the groaning victims of actual carnage he has caused..."
This writer needs to rethink his self-medication.
"...Add to that horror the facts that more buses loaded with children are rushing down the road toward the accident scene, soon to crash, and that there is no rescue squad to call, no ''security force."..."
If you need more school buses to blow up, don't ask Mayor Nagin for any. If I were a leftist, I'd avoid the word, 'school bus' for the next few months.

Aljazeera, N.Y. Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post, most newspapers in the world, NBC, CBS, CNBC, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, Time, Newsweek, WSJ, Forbes, etc. - all the same thing: lies and/or "some say" propaganda. Cancel all magazine and newspaper subscriptions, don't watch TV news. Get your "news" (what little there is worth hearing or reading) free on the internet. It takes about 2 minutes per day, if that.

shame in relation to the plight of our young soldiers No need for shame, sir, we'll be just fine. However, if you really feel the need to 'do something', then campaign to get us a raise, and we'll call it even. ;-)
