I heard on the radio this morning, that a pilot of a passenger jet departing LAX claimed to have narrowly avoided being hit by a missile. It was reported that the jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude & over the ocean when the event occurred. The news report further stated that authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."
I googled but found nothing. Anyone else have some info on this? I dont recall whether it was CBS or NBC radio news.
"Wow! Great bit of intel gathering, velveeta! "
Intel? Are you kidding? That website quotes this thread. End of intel.
Good thing the government was able to shut up all the passengers and crew on that "endangered" flight.
Yeah, i realize your point. My point was that velveeta found(gathered) the info(intel) & posted it.
I'm just glad this story was worthy enough to be spread elsewhere.
Hmmm.. so it could possibly have been a midnight flight out of LAX but due to time of incident,to time of press getting wind of it, maybe a couple hours delay in reporting?
bump again!
My best guess is that this flight was a late night flight - I cant remember whether it was mentioned in the broadcast, however.
The pilot witnessed an incident that was later excused by the FBI as a "flare" or "bottlerocket." So evidently there was a visible light.
Yikes, if true!
LAX have a public affairs office? They might at least confirm the ABC report even if they refuse to comment further.
Congratulations on finding that report...will they really continue to report?
Yeah, and I've seen that too. Problem there is balancing the load so it still goes up straight. Then there is making sure all the engines fire at the same time, so you don't pitch the rocket into an aerial circle of some sort.
What post are you referencing?
Thanks,
R
I'll make an anecdotal point about things that don't get reported in the media. Was on a Shuttle by United flight, John Wayne to SFO. Had gone out over the ocean a few minutes earlier and had turned north, just to the SE of Catalina. I saw the moon rising (nearly full moon) over the Santa Ana Mts. Next thing I know, G forces (not anything extremely radical but noticeable) and I saw the upper edge of my window "eclipse" the moon. G forces got a bit stronger and some rather odd overall attitudinal sensations. Next thing I know, the moon "emerged" from the lower edge of my window. Paleo Conservative has a photo showing an old 707 doing acrobatics - hey, 737s can do them too! I digress. The pilot was on the horn about 10 minutes later apologizing for "unexpected maneouvers to deal with air traffic." LOL. Towards the end of the flight we bought a little airline bottle of scotch and asked stewardess to set it aside for the pilot for an after flight somethingorother and to tell him "congratulations." Pilot was on horn a few minutes after that thanking us!
Joe Dirt: So your gonna' tell me that you don't have no black cats, no roman candles, or screaming mimis?
Kicking Wing: No.
Joe Dirt: Oh come on man. You got no lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity do das, or crap flappers?
Kicking Wing: No, I don't.
Joe Dirt: You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?
Kicking Wing: No... because snakes and sparklers are the only ones I like.
Joe Dirt: Well that might be your problem, it's not what you like, it's the consumer.
It's the new "Allah's Fire" Bottle Rocket, available over-the-counter in Iran to card carrying Jihadis.
Coming soon to airports nationwide courtesy of the open-border policy.
I sent an e-mail to ABCnews.com because I couldn't find a #. This morning I got an e-mail from someone named Ashley at ABC news - I need to contact ABC news radio -
125 West End Avenue
New York, NY 10023
(212) 456-5100
So I called. I spoke with a woman who said she was unaware of any such report and would I please hold for an "investigator". I held the line for over 20 minutes - no "investigator", no reporter, no one ever came back to the phone to take my call.
hmmmm. Something is rotten and it really stinks
Sure don't sound like it was one o' them Screamin' Meamies. Or one of those Husker Doos...or Husker Don'ts.
Maybe it was OJ shooting at the real killers.
The news report that I heard yesterday stated the flight #. I wish I had written it down. and I would almost swear on my life that it was an United Airline flight though it could have been American. Can anyone find out what flights left LAX on Sunday night or Monday morning? That would help narrow it down some.
Ridiculous.
You should be ashamed of yourself for attempting to mislead this forum.
Obviously all the earmarks of none other than.
...swamp gas.
Ah ha!!!! Success at last! The flight WAS an American Airline flight - flight # 621.
I spoke with Kate at ABC news. She found the tape file and gave me the details. I asked her if it didn't sound a little suspicious to her that the FBI said it was a bottle rocket that left a smoke trail in front of the plane at 6,000 feet? I told her that they may want to investigate this a little more. Get this. She said "Thank you for your call" and hung up.
I think I'll e-mail FOX now and follow up with Michele Malkin.
Wow, you rock for a newbie! ...well, you just rock...period! ;)
