Texas Woman Mauled to Death by Six Dogs
Nov 27 2:52 PM US/Eastern
THORNDALE, Texas
A pack of six dogs mauled a 76-year-old woman to death as she worked in her yard, authorities said.
Lillian Loraine Stiles was riding on a lawn mower in her front yard Saturday when she was confronted by the dogs, described as pit bull- rottweiler mixed breeds, said Milam County Sheriff Charlie West.
Investigators think Stiles was attacked when she got off the mower and headed into her house.
Stiles had severe bites over her entire body, and a man who tried to help her was bitten on one leg, authorities said.
The dogs were found at the home of Stiles' neighbor, Jose Hernandez.
The sheriff's department will send the findings of its investigation to the Milam County District Attorney's Office, which will decide if any criminal charges will be filed against Hernandez.
Thorndale is located about 70 miles west of College Station.
I think some breeds of animals should require a license to handle and insurance up the a$$ to keep. You cannot just keep a lion in your yard... No different for a so-called pit bull.
Except that dogs have been domesticated for 10s of thousands of years.
And bears and tigers are anywhere from 400 to 800 lbs. heavier.
The dogs are strong, resourceful, and motivated to get loose.
Some are and that is why responsible owners take all necessary precautions to ensure this doesn't happen.
The fools which own them are a danger to their neighbors.
There are many thing I wish fools did not own.
But owning a particular breed of dog does not make a person a fool.
It is common knowledge that certain breeds of dogs tend more toward agressiveness than others.
I would agree that terriers tend to be aggressive.
But even dogs such as Labs, Cocker Spaniels and others have reputations for aggressiveness.
'Pit bulls' tend to be dog-aggressive but that doesn't necessarily translate to human-aggressive.
If they are large and possess powerful undershot jaws the danger is increased.
I don't know if undershot jaws makes a bite more powerful
but I do know that "pit bulls" do not have undershot jaws.
Boxers and Bulldogs have naturally undershot jaws.
That's what should happen, of course. But he's an illegal alien. His "rights" might trump ours.. resulting in the possibility of catch and release deportation. In that case, he'll be back, no worse for wear.
IF?????????????????
You spoke of a cat. I spoke of chickens.
My point was to the dangers of arguing from the specific to the general.
Or do you excuse your dogs from differentiating?
My dog apparently has greater powers of differentiating than some posters.
They are insane. They would probably have kept on even if she'd shot one.
outlaw pitbulls and illegals with pitbulls!
"These dogs should be outlawed, rounded up and exterminated as a breed. Period. End of discussion.
I agree 100% ............ heck I always have my 11 lb mini-Schnauzer on a leash when I walk her, for the protection against her attacking some one! : )
The subject was intimidating people with it and then threatening people who spoke up about it. Police said there was little they could do as long as it was on a leash. I took it upon my self to nonchalantly walk up and shoot it in the head with two hollow points. Not sure if it was the same dog...
Courtesy of your tax dollars, I became a small arms expert when I was a snot nosed kid just out of highschool. I can make apple sauce within about a thousand yards of an apple.
The elected sheriff is a personal friend of mine, have the permits.
The subject made himself real scarce and moved out of the neighborhood a few weeks later (didn't see him take any dogs with him).
I must not have been a very nice fellow in those weeks, but I'll leave you missing that part...
A wolverine isn't and neither is a puma...
Your point being?
You obviously know my point.
Perhaps you would like to tell me the difference between wolverine or puma and a dog.
ONLY if owners are ineffective alpha-males.
I NEVER pick up my weapon without intention to use it to its fullest capacity.
No different for a so-called pit bull.
'Pit bulls' are out of their environment when they aren't in a pit - covered with a little dirt.
In my opinion, you should have been locked up. That is really sick.
I disagree. When you acquire a breed you KNOW will kill and you haven't the brain to keep it under control away from others, you're a fool.
Neither your sheriff friend nor your permits would have done you any good had someone complained you were terrorizing the neighborhood with your firearms. You'd have lost them, and if convicted of that felony, your right to keep them as well.
KILL ALL PIT BULLS AND MAKE IT A FELONY TO OWN THEM. AND FOR YOU YO-YO'S OUT THERE WHO THINK THEY ARE SUCH KIND AND LOVING DOGS YOU ARE NUTS.""
You are correct. Thank you and AMEN.
