Well, it's confirmed. Liberals ARE really that stupid!
Liberals will not drive this country into socialism. It is the free market globalists in the GOP who thinks CEO have no obligations to their nation of birth, except blind profit will drive this nation into socialism. Undercutting workers wages by importing H-1B workers, and outsourcing every job possible overseas, and the RINO who refuses to deal with our open borders will destroy the US middle class and drive desperate workers into the arms of the Democratic Leftwing who will come to power by them and create the Socialist world we all are trying to avoid.
Interesting story. Sounds very familiar. I have had many such thanksgiving conversations with my liberal extended family. There is no logic and reason with them. Their entire political thought process is bumpersticker thinking. Cute little meaningless sayings.
I once had a "peacenik" "pacifist" liberal tell me that the kurds deserved to get mustard gassed by the Saddam.
The liberals I sup with despise Bush, but it;s because he's a CHRISTIAN.
I had a liberal older lady back away, holding her head, AGHAST that I was "One of THOSE"!!! It was LOL funny! Another, spewed anti-Christian crap KNOWING that I am a Catholic and not feeling the LEAST uncomfortable about dissing Christians to my face.... I can ONLY imagine what they say when a Christian is not in their midst!! Pitiful people.

Sadly, your conversation with this woman is a fairly representative example of what passes for "intellectual discussion" with a Liberal in the 21st Century. And you're right, it's not just the brainwashed college kids or the 1960's radicals trying to relive their sordid past, the lack of coherent rhetoric is pervasive among those who identify themselves as "liberal" or their newest euphemism for their warped view of the world...Progressive.
I have a pretty good Thanksgiving story as well. A close friend of mine is back after serving in Afghanistan. He and his Father, who was one of the most highly decorated soldiers of the entire Vietnam War, get together for Thanksgiving dinner with some family members. Now the Father who was a big-time war hero, has a sister who is a 1960's style Liberal. She and her Liberal husband have raised hideously left wing kids, including a college student daughter who is one of those would-be Eco Terrorist Leftists who the media calls the anti-Globalization crowd. Well, at Thanksgiving daughter, the topic of politics comes up, and the Left Wing daughter starts going on about George Bush being the world's biggest terrorist, and the armed forces being a bunch of brainwashed morons who risk their lives for "corporate America" and all the usual left wing drivel. My friend starts trying to engage in argument with her, but his father remains silent. After some back and forth, the Left Wing daughter and her parents then express the view that 9/11 was actually done by the Bush Administration to give them a reason to go to war and win the 2004 election. Well, right in the middle of a bite of turkey, my friend's Father stands up, goes OFF on these idiots for about a minute, then tells his family to get their coats, and right in the middle of dinner they drove 90 minutes home. This poor guy just couldn't take listening to it after giving part of his body during THREE tours in Nam...this is the kind of thing that Left Wingers are doing to America with their insane rhetoric.
It's a misnomer. There's nothing liberal, as in free, about liberals. It's why I refer to them as leftists instead.
Socialism is nothing more than slavery, without the honesty of the situation.
I hate to bring it up, but the lady lawyer may turn out to have a point.
It does appear that the Yugoslavs needed a dictator, if they were to continue as a single country anyway. Remove the dictator and his country, which had been quite functional by Eastern European commie standards, blew apart in civil war.
We have yet to find out if the same thing will happen in Iraq. I'm cautiously hopeful that it won't, but I'm certainly not going to be shocked if Iraq is not an intact functioning democracy in five years.

I agree. Their society is such that they will have a very hard time accepting the results of any election. I think that will be the biggest challenge for them. Hopefully they'll get it right... we'll find out soon enough.
