Kirkuk - Iraqi police said on Saturday they have smashed an al-Qaeda-linked cell plotting an imminent assassination attempt against the chief judge trying deposed leader Saddam Hussein.

"We arrested 12 members of a cell linked to the Iraqi branch of al-Qaeda during a dawn raid on a house in eastern Kirkuk," said Colonel Anwar Kader, police chief in the ethnically tense northern Iraqi city.

"They confessed during questioning to planning to kill (chief judge) Raed al-Juhi this week," he added.

I bet they did, unlike if they had been captured by American troops, given our "sensitivity" and all.

Probably a good half of the insurgents arent insurgents at all but Saddams cronies working with Al Quaeda. The sooner Saddam gets dirt shoveled in his face the better.

Of course they would like to kill that judge.
He is a Iraqi-Kurd. The cells feel he will not get a fair
trial. Saddam killed how many Kurds?

But how could this be? There is no headway being made in Iraq and terrorists are unbeatable.

Let's just fix this right now, save a sh*tload of money & how many more lives - let's do just that. Saddam isn't worth the gunk that gets caught in the treads of my shoe.

Just do it!!

I still think he should be placed on a catapault and flung about 200 yards into a brick wall where he could slide down and lay there until the bugs started working on him.

Most people would support this as polls indicate the vast majority of people support catapault punishment.

That this happened is not surprising. What is surprising is only one plot has been discovered so far.

Nah... too fast. He 'd better be kept in suspension [on the meat hook by a rib, preferably over a small fire]. The whole contraption could even be made into a large clock pendulum.

I'm interested in whether these are Baathists who may be linked to Al-Qaeda. Also what their objectives are.
