Declare War on Iran
Men's News Daily ^ | November 24, 2005 | by Bruce Walker

Posted on 11/26/2005 3:05:58 AM PST by F14 Pilot

The mullahs of Iran, quite properly included in the Axis of Evil, are vastly unpopular in their brutal regime of Iran. America has never recognized the legitimacy of that realm, which in violation of international law occupied our embassy and held our diplomatic staff as hostages in 1980.

Few, if anyone, in the democracies doubts the incredible danger which will be posed to world peace if Iran obtains atomic or thermonuclear weapons. Much of our work to democratize Afghanistan and Iraq will be in vain. The delicate balancing act the India and Pakistan are pursuing as two relatively new members of the nuclear club and each struggling with ethnic minorities will be unhinged. The new and democratic nations of Central Asia, which will increasingly apply pressure on both Russia and China to act decently to their own citizens will gravitate like satellites to brutal larger nations – Iran, China or Russia – none of which are friends of freedom.

Also, unlike Iraq or Afghanistan, the people of Iran are sophisticated and recall what life was like in the freedom of twenty-five years ago. They perceive how far their once very successful nation has fallen since a Shah supported by America lost power. Almost every dynamic works in favor of broad support for American intervention within Iran.

The ghastly, ten year war with Iraq was initiated by Saddam Hussein, the very tyrant who America has overthrown and handed over to the Iraqi people to try for his crimes against humanity. This terrible war could never have been started by Hussein had the mullahs not overthrown the powerful, pro-American Shah with his vastly superior military forces, leaving Iran to the military incompetence of the mullahs.

The liberation of Iraq allows the long persecuted Shia of Iraq, religious companions of the Iranian Shia, a voice, indeed a great voice, in the affairs of Iraq, and it also ends the long genocidal campaign waged by Hussein against the Iraqi Shia. While no one is seeking to “liberate” Iran from Shiite Islam, we would be liberating the Shiite majority of Iran from subjugation.

American forces – battle tested forces – are in both Iraq and Afghanistan, which border Iran from the southwest and northeast. Moreover, unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, where our goals were difficult to articulate, our goals in Afghanistan would be as clear as, say, our goals in Italy in the Second World War. We recognize that the Iranian people are not hostile to America and they do not require a long presence of American troops to establish a working, prosperous and peaceful democracy. All Iranians require is that a superior force overwhelm the utterly discredited fascist mullahs, establish a modicum of order, and quickly leave.

Moreover, the Iranian people listen to the world. Our goals could be explicitly stated before the attack, and a point by point document circulated among the huge Iranian underground. Our goals would coincide with what they want.

What would those goals be? First, the elimination of a religious theocracy and its replacement by a tolerant democracy based, generally, on Shiite Islam (which has proven historically tolerant toward minorities.) Second, true legal equality for all Iranians, regardless of faith, gender, or ethnicity. Third, the immediate cessation of any efforts to build nuclear weapons, accompanied by open inspections. Fourth, friendly and peaceful relations with Iraq, Afghanistan and the republics of Central Asia.

President Bush should ask Congress to declare war on Iran soon next year, after the composition of the Iraqi democracy is formed. This request should state our precise aims and it should include a hard timeframe for withdrawal of troops and transition to the Iranian people.

Why would this be possible? American forces have proven that they can win very quick, very decisive victories with a minimum of American military losses. That is all that is required in Iran. The very weak Iranian military could only withstand a serious attack from American forces for a few weeks or perhaps only a few days.

Which congressman would vote against declaring war on Iran – the constitutional way to wage war – when Iran is such an awful and dangerous threat, one that could go nuclear soon, one that held Americans hostage, when the precise objectives were plainly laid out? Which congressman would defend the oppression of women and religious minorities in Iran? Which congressman would defend a government which calls for a second Holocaust? President Bush should do this the old fashion way, the way that puts congressman on record – ask them, not him, to declare war on this awful government.

We will declare war on Iran shortly after they declare they have delivery systems for their nuclear weapons and close the entire region to US bound tanker traffic.

Not before unfortunately. Democracies are always reactive, rarely proactive. If China and the EU kick in with Iran on this we will be in WWIV, alone as per the usual.

If the U.S. pulls out of Iraq and the insane Ayatollahs are still left standing in Iran, and the terrorist/insurgentr supporting state of Syria is still standing, we will have lost. Iraq, surrounded by two aggressive fascist states, will either degnerate into another version of its former self, or join in league with these two demon entities to threaten the security of the entire world.

The U.S., with our huge population, can afford to support a much larger military establishment - and we need one badly.

We are in the midst of a major war and Iraq is but one battle in that war. If we lose this one, we will be converted into a third rate power and become ayatollized ourselves.

We have allowed radical Islamists here in our own COuntry. In publicly funded institutions which would never permit the open display of CHristian symbols, our governmnet has permitted the set-aside of areas for Islamic prayer sessions. WE have just recently been treated to television shots of Muslim thugs - possibly from our own home grown cult of lunatics - The Nation of Islam - trashing a liquor store.

We can no longer afford the social and cultural and moral cost of Quislings like Cindy Sheehan, Murtha and Ted Kennedy undermining efforts to preserve our lives nad safety.

Have we so soon forgotten the thousands of American civilians slaughtered at their jobs in New York by these Islamist lunatics? Is the memory of an attempted attack on the White House, the assault on the pentagon, so dim??

The latter were not isolated attacks by a handful of lunatics. They were deliberately contrived assaults by an international cabal of thugs bound and determine to spread their religious beliefs by the sword and impose on the free world the same kind of chaos that existsin Afghanistan, Iran, and other Islamist societies.

For our sons and daughters, and for the freedom of western civlization, we must confron this meance - the greatest threat since NAZI Germnay - and in many ways an even more serious one, or see our grandchildren raised in burquas, bowing to Mecca, denied freedom of religion, thought and behavior. and living in in an Islamist slave state.

Iran poses little danger to the U.S., it is Europe that is in the crosshairs and Israel.
When is Israel going to take any action in its own defence against Iran?
As for Europe, you can forget them doing anything but talk about their own security.

Frankly I'm getting tired of this debate. How can there even be a debate on the issue of our security? We are in a WWIII plain and simple. It has nothing to do with our prewar intelligence. If anything, the intelligence has underestimated the risk our nation faces in the next 20 years.

The sooner we get rid of these appeasers in Congress, from both sides of the aisle, the better for our security here at home.

But no military experience. I could tell that long before I got to the bio. His suggestions are insane.

"establish a modicum of order, and quickly leave."

That's what we thought concerning Iraq.

I'm wondering why Iran's government is so anxious to draw us into a war with them.

Usually such talk is used as a distraction from (or an excuse for) domestic problems. Castro has been talking about war since the Bay of Pigs.

We will be in Iraq forever. Has anyone forgotten what a pain in the ass it was when we had no base in the middle east? WE had to negotiate with Turkey to try to fly over their stupid country?

The military bases we have established in Iraq stabilize the entire region, more than justify our involvement and, hopefully will never be abandoned. The fragile security of the Iraq democracy insures our presence just like a weak Shah of Iran did (before Carter messed it up).

The whining is just part of the price of stability.

And CHavez is afraid (in the media anyway) of us invading Venezuela. Again, a distraction from domestic probs.

When we've reduced the level of our troop in Iraq (about a year from now or less) Iran may take a poke at Iraq. The 10-year war had some upside to the mullahs, and it may be a last gast effort to hang on to power...and to put critics (students) on the front line. However, they will quickly learn the difference between the half-hearted the-enemy-of-my-enemy support we gave Sadaam and the level of interest we will give to this conflict.

"That's what we thought concerning Iraq. "

Precisely. We'll get to play "counterinsurgency" both countries then.

All things in good time. Who knows what covert actions are presently underway in Iran.

I seriously doubt that Israel or the United States would be sitting around doing nothing in light of what is occurring with Iran's nuclear program.

Allowing the Mullahs to develop nukes is like allowing Hitler to develop them.

It CANNOT be allowed to happen.

Pres. Bush needs to do what needs to be done.

>> I'm wondering why Iran's government is so anxious to draw us into a war with them.

Because they know what we do not yet know, id est China and the EU will side with them in exchange for tanker passage rights.

Europe and China have been scheming for decades to subdue the US and put us in our place, Iran will be their mechanism.

Then we will smoke half the planet like a Marlboro and rebuild.

This was the reason from day one.
