A former Canadian Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister under Pierre Trudeau has joined forces with three Non-governmental organizations to ask the Parliament of Canada to hold public hearings on Exopolitics -- relations with ETs.
By ETs, Mr. Hellyer and these organizations mean ethical, advanced extraterrestrial civilizations that may now be visiting Earth.
On September 25, 2005, in a startling speech at the University of Toronto that caught the attention of mainstream newspapers and magazines, Paul Hellyer, Canadas Defence Minister from 1963-67 under Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Prime Minister Lester Pearson, publicly stated: "UFOs, are as real as the airplanes that fly over your head."

Well, I guess this guy explains why Canada doesn't want to buy into the US missle defense system. Apparently, if we build such a system, it will just provoke the extra-terrestrials and bring Canada into an intergalactic war they know they cannot win. Once again, Canada knows how to better protect the continent. They should feel pretty good about themselves after this one...

Somehow, someway, I knew that this story would find a way to blame something on Bush. Canada just wants us to close down the NORAD! Maybe, they don't like us telling children we track Santa, and have hourly updates on Santa sightings on Christmas eve.

He stated, "The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."
"Rest assured, Stargate Command is deeply appreciative of the level of support which the Bush Administration has shown towards the program."
Gotta love the assumption of "ethical" aliens, though. If they share the same ethics as this guy, then they'd also be against weapons in space. In which case, we really got nothing to worry about. For all we know, though, the ethics of the supposed aliens may be more in line with the ethics of THIS guy...
Either way, this guys whole line of reasoning is stupid. "We don't want the Americans to be shooting at the peaceful, kind, fluffy, and ethical aliens, even though 'ethical' aliens wouldn't really give them a reason to shoot at them, because then it might cause those self-same ethical aliens to turn their planet-destroying weaponry on a species vastly inferior technologically to them". Yeah, REAL ethical.

This former Canadian government official shouldn't worry.
The United States is already on good terms with our overlords from outer space.

Hellyer's brain melted or seemingly something similar happened back in 1968 when Pierre Trudeau beat him for the Liberal leadership.
Since then, find a crackpot cause or group and he's been there - usually as 'leader'.
Plus, he's a painfully self-righteous, as well as self-important, old SOB.
Any American friends picturing 'Jimmy Carter with icicles' wouldn't be far off - LOL!

Give the size of the galaxy, I think an intragalactic war is more likely. Good to know our neighbors to the north are worried about important things. This is a perfect fit--a contry with a nonexistent defense figuring out how to deal with nonexistent enemies.
To: SubMareener
OF course this loon was also against the war in Iraq.
So he says Bush wants to build a moonbase to fight the aliens with?
Sounds like the old TV show UFO with Ed Straker and SHADO.
To: fanfan
I realize this is embarassing to you saner folks up in Canada, but when I mentioned the gist of the article to Mrs. B, she just went,
"Cool! If we're going to get in an intergalatic space war, we'll need that foreward moonbase..."
