A Canadian soldier was killed and four others injured Thursday when their armoured vehicle rolled over in Afghanistan.
No explosive devices were involved in the accident near Kandahar, said defence sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
They said the accident involved a LAV-3 armoured personnel carrier.
Officials said the injuries were not life-threatening. The name of the dead soldier was not immediately released.
In Ottawa, Defence Minister Bill Graham confirmed the death in the House of Commons, calling on MPs to observe a moment of silence.
"I'm certain all members of the House will support us in offering our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims in this dreadful accident," he said.
The soldier is the eighth Canadian to die in Afghanistan since Canada first sent soldiers into the southwest Asian country in 2002.
Four died by friendly fire, two by anti-tank mines and one at the hand of a suicide bomber.
In recent weeks the Canadians have been running convoys between Kabul and Kandahar as they move headquarters to the country's volatile southern region from the capital.
Earlier this month, a Canadian soldier was sent home with a broken leg after a collision between two military vehicles in Kabul.
Four others were treated for cuts and bruises and released.
In September, two Canadian soldiers suffered minor injuries when a roadside bomb exploded next to their armoured patrol in Kabul.
Thanks for the update Cannoneer No. 4
I'm just thankful that our guys have suffered more casualties so far, which is actually pretty remarkable when you consider how dangerous of a place Afghanistan is.
Condolonces to friends, family and comrades of this soldier, whoever he or she is.

I agree
Prayers go out ...
Uh, yeah, thanks for the correction. I did mean "not suffered more casualties".
Very nice.
Pretty sad day for his family and those who were injured.
Canada has contributed a lot to the WOT - even in Iraq and at CENTCOM - that goes unpublished due to our liberal government and useless press.
