AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan's King Abdullah II urged his new prime minister Thursday to launch an all-out war against Islamic militancy in the wake of the triple hotel bombings earlier this month that killed 63 people.

In a letter to newly appointed Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit, Abdullah said the Nov. 9 bombings "increase our determination to stick to our reform and democratization process, which is irreversible."

"At the same time, it reaffirms our need to adopt a comprehensive strategy to confront the Takfiri culture," Abdullah said, referring to the ideology adopted by Al Qaeda and other militants who condone the killing of those they consider infidels.

Too bad the cowardly French don't take this stance. Along with all the other 'civilized' nations on earth.

AS I understand it, aside from Israel, the Jordanians have the best trained and efficient military in the Middle east.

Heres a deal to them....We'll help you against AQ if you help us in Iraq...considering the two are intertwined.

It's always a problem when your ox gets gored.

Maybe the Arabs are finally waking up to the fact that the terrorists don't want a free Islam to practice and rule over an Islamic world, they just want to be their own particular brand of dictator and mass murderer.

The public edicts are becoming more interesting as time moves on. For those that retain what they have read the past few years of Jordian's efforts to eliminate local terrorist organizations, and after 9/11 having joined with western countries in the global war on terrorism, one could view this lastest pronouncement as a good sign. In essence, addressing in a public manner, the need to change the cultural and religious believe system that leads to creating terrorist in all their forms.

When the government comes out with a "adopt a comprehensive strategy to confront the Takfiri culture" philosophy, it appears they are over the hump. It will be interesting to see how they fair as to carrying out this reformation. IMHO, it clearly strikes at one of the core problems in the Qu´ran.

Too bad the King didn't take this stance before the "Off with his head" threat by Al-Zar....

Too little, too late!

Yep, that would be my guess. Fine when it's just others getting killed. Kinda like what if the 9/11 hijackers had crashed into BS's house.

I used to live next to a Jordanian. He was a pretty cool guy. Very westernized. They're an awful lot like us. Rational.

With all due respect, I would aver that the President's seriousity has been long-since established and is hardly in doubt.

Now, strategery, we can debate all day long. :-)

A guy I know from my college classes is from Jordan, and he's a stand up guy. (He is an Arab Christian, however)

Everyone has their LINE IN THE SAND. This apparently is Jordan's.

When Arabs start turning on Arabs, it might get much more than interesting.
My prayers are with the King. Here's hoping his position and local respect will turn the tide against the radicals.
