A surge in random violence has pushed San Francisco's homicide rate ahead of last year's pace, leaving city officials wondering what more they can do to reduce the bloodshed.
Two killings took place Friday. In the first, a carpenter was gunned down in the morning as he walked in a Mission District alley, possibly because he was wearing a blue shirt in territory claimed by a gang that wears red.
Then at 6:30 p.m., an unidentified man was gunned down in the 1600 block of Sunnydale Avenue.
The two killings brought the city's total to 84 slayings in 2005, compared with 81 at this time last year.
Until recently, police and city officials had been encouraged by a drop in homicides that dated from the middle of 2004. That was around the time local authorities began working with federal law enforcement to charge chronic violent offenders with federal gun possession crimes that could put them behind bars for long stretches.

"A surge in random violence"
Ahhhh, reminds of Paris in the spring...
Ooooh, I know!
Let's ban all guns AND give free wireless internet access!
San Fagisco... a blight on the Nation.
That's so eighties.
They should leaflet men in Red Shirts to make sure they got the gun ban message.
Oh Hell, this is easy to fix. All they have to do is ban handguns...oh wait...
These morons are unexcelled in the liberal destruction of their city. The Communist Manifesto has taken over...along with ULTRA-EXTREME liberalism. These Marxists haven't figured out that crime goes up where criminals KNOW there will be little punishment in the courts for crime AND NO GUNS in the hands of law-abiding citizens....
Marxist idiots.
All these criminals will turn in their guns on April 1st, according to the plan.
BWAHAHAHAHA
Maybe they could hold hands with the murderers and sing "Kumbaya." Or seek them out and mind-meld with them. Or share a bong.
You know, all those pacifist "solutions" that other people are supposed to try but that never seem to work in the real world.
Nice to know tough gun laws are reducing crime in San Francisco!
If there was ever a city that asked for it, SanFrancisco is.
An immediate pullout.
Isn't that what they want President Bush to do in Iraq?
Looks like they baned all personally owned guns a bit to soon.
Wait till the youts start rioting in frisco.....they ain't seen nothing yet..
You beat me to it!!
A friend of mine that ran a lawn service that serviced some city housing (projects) found herself in a similar bind. When confronted by gang members that were opposed to the color shirts her workers wore, they decided to agree on LIME GREEN t-shirts next time.LOL
N.G.L. No Great Loss
Hmmm, well that info. is quite interesting...seeing as San Fran just voted to ban guns:
